The increase in the overall household income makes it possible for families to purchase fast foods (Memish, 2014). The sale of fast foods in Saudi Arabia has increased over the past five years. Few meals are being prepared in the homes of most Saudi Arabia citizens. Many families can hire nannies who introduce new meals in Saudi homes. The presence of the house helps have resulted in a sedentary lifestyle among the children.

Globally, more than 43 million children have been classified as being overweight. The number of children that are overweight is increasing dramatically in both developing and developed countries. The World Health Organization (WHO) statistics show that more than 30% of children in Saudi Arabia are either obese or would become obese in their childhood and teenage years (Hammad and Berry, 2016). The statistics are significant since young children below the age of 16 accounts for more than 30% of the general population in Saudi Arabia. Obesity in children is defined as the increase in the Body Mass Index with a more than 95 percentile (Hammad and Berry, 2016). Obesity in children poses significant health risks among these children which may include hypertension, sleep apnea, and asthma. Childhood obesity is a serious case that is affecting many children in Saudi Arabia. The cases of obesity in children are increasing with each passing day. Saudi Arabia belongs to the Gulf countries. These countries are known to have a substantial amount of oil, which makes the countries to be extremely wealthy, thus the people of Gulf countries are capable of leading comfortable lives. The people in Saudi Arabia can afford good lifestyles and are thus these people are spending their lives indoors. The Saudis prefer fast foods over good healthy meals for the fast-food are ready-made (DeNicola et al., 2015).
