Health Sciences and Medicine Early Rehabilitation Intervention Introduction Occupational therapy is a process of treatment used for developing the health quality of the people. This therapy is highly effective for recovering and enhancing the living and working style of the people suffering from physical, cognitive and mental disorder. The therapy is used for removing the external barriers that can be helpful for the people to participate in the daily activities independently. In this regard, occupational therapy is considered to be an important profession. The occupational therapists develop a framework i.e. Occupational Therapy Practice Framework (OTPF) useful in enhancing the living quality and treatment procedure to lead a better life (Niedersachsen.de, 2015). The framework is based on people suffering from different health disorders. The framework is effective in the intervention of early rehabilitation. The framework focuses on eliminating the environmental barriers as well as developing the health for overall development of the society (American Occupational Therapy Association, Inc, 2002). Thesis Statement The objective of the research paper is to describe about the features of the OTPF. The study focuses on the usefulness of the OTPF in early rehabilitation. In addition, the positive impact of the OTPF in early rehabilitation has been discussed. Synopsis Rehabilitation is one of the most important treatment procedures considered to be an effective way of restoring the health of the patients successfully. Early rehabilitation is identified to be a useful for people suffering from any mental or psychological disorder. Rehabilitation is an important part of the treatment procedure with the aim of reducing activity limitations along with participation restrictions. Rehabilitation is also identified as long time process, which is suitable for people who are experiencing disability or any environmental barriers within a society. Rehabilitation is an effective procedure of reducing negative impact of any health disorder. It is also recognized as a periodical treatment, which has been applied in the present day context with the aim of ascertaining active participation of people in different areas that include work, social activities and education (WHO, 2011). Apart from this, the rehabilitation framework is based on improving the functioning process by making correct diagnosis for the treatment of the health condition. In this context, several doctors are identified to refer certain people for specialized medical treatment and suggest them for rehabilitation with the intention of better treatment as well as recovery. Occupational therapy is recognized to be interrelated with the rehabilitation system, as the therapy provides effective measures based on which health conditions of the patients can be revived effectively. Rehabilitation is highly associated with the OTPF. People having long-term complications due to critical illness are may opt for the treatment of rehabilitation by using the OTPF. In addition, people having conceptual weaknesses along with neuropsychiatric diseases are quite suitable for the rehabilitation treatment (Brahmbhatt, Murugan & Milbrandt, 2010). As the occupational therapy and the rehabilitation treatment are dealing with similar kind of health disorder, it has also expected that both the treatments in an aligned way will be helpful for patients who are disabled in nature. Both the treatment rehabilitation and OTPF is a time based or periodical treatment, which helps people to lead a normal life. In this regard, both the treatments altogether would be an effective treatment for better healthy life. The OTPF is developed for guiding the therapists for using occupation as a centre of the treatment practices. In order to maintain the OTPF effectively in the rehabilitation, the environmental influences are to be recognized and mitigated effectively for enhanced treatment of the same. In this regard, the community or the rehabilitation provides a unique environment for the occupational therapy practices. It has been also stated that the biomechanical frame of reference is considered to be one of the most important parts for the occupational therapy that has been used during the rehabilitation frame. It has been observed that to improve the living quality of the disabled people, the therapist sometimes forced to adopt the biomechanical frame of reference. The OTPF is highly effective to reduce the trauma that can affect the normal daily life of the people. Subsequently, the OTPF is highly effective in providing expertise specialist care to the patients. This treatment can help mentally disturbed patients by providing proper assessment as well as intervention. This assessment and intervention can also help those people having cognitive, visual as well as physical dysfunction (Gradidge, Casteleijn & Franzsen, 2013). To improve the condition of the people, the therapists provide effective rehabilitation to those people who are having the mental disorders. In addition, the occupational therapists are also helpful in reducing the time of staying in hospitals by providing the support of rehabilitation programs. The occupational therapy with the support of rehabilitation system will help the patients to reduce the possibilities of unplanned hospital admissions. Apart from this, the occupational therapists will also provide rehabilitation in the hospitals as well as community centres. This treatment is highly helpful in facilitating long-term self-management for the patients. It has also stated that the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team will lead the patients to enjoy early return to work. This active support from the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team will provide stable social network. From this support, the patient become independent and required less professional care in the long term. In addition, the OTPF by including the rehabilitation treatment can be able to reduce the time of the multi-trauma patients admitted in hospitals. Apart from this, the rehabilitation can reduces the psychological pressure from the patients having the tendency of suffering from any kind of mental trauma. Earlier rehabilitation treatment is considered to be one of the most useful treatments for the treatment of patients having different disorders. In this context, earlier rehabilitation is a specialized rehabilitation unit that reduces the period of staying in clinics and ensures in effective treatments. This feature is also considered as a cost effective treatment. The patients with the treatment services based on the support of the OTPF along with rehabilitation facility by early psychological experts and social counseling are able to be better intervened and treated (Gradidge et al., 2013). The OTPF is a design for treating patients suffering from long-term traumas. Conceptually, the OTPF recommend the assessment that can be conducted in a time effective manner. This treatment has proven to be important and effective treatment for patients. Most of the time, the occupational therapists can take the decision of providing long-term assessment to the patients by observing their health conditions. In this regard, specialist rehabilitation facility will be able to reduce the extra time and excess cost in the treatment of the patients with disorder. The multi-trauma patients are also identified to be provided treatment on the basis of certain phases that include ‘early rehabilitation phase’, ‘stage II rehabilitation phase’ and ‘discharge or post-discharge phase’. In the design of the occupational therapy, profile of a patient is mandatory to include all the necessary information, so that treatment services can be provided in an appropriate way as well as in accordance with treatment requirements. The age group, the medical history of the patients from childhood to adult hood will be considered during the preparation of the occupational therapy profile. Apart from this, the therapists will also evaluate the several job roles that have been played by the therapist through their lifespan. The OTPF has been developed in such a way that reflects the importance of information that has a relation to the patients’ treatment. In the second phase, the patients are to be offered with training services for performing different household and other hobbies. In the phase of discharge, the patients are prepared for staying at their homes by referring them to local healthcare professionals and physiotherapists (Brahmbhatt et al., 2010). The rehabilitation centres provide proper medical care for those patients suffering from trauma. These patients are provided with combined responsibilities for driving them to the hospitals. In this regard, with the ambulance services as well as trauma centres, rehabilitation clinics provide medical assistance after any disaster and accident. Patients having symptoms of depression or any mental disorder are able to have appropriate treatment based on the OTPF. In this regard, alignment of the OTPF and early rehabilitation facilitates patients in having suitable medical care under favorable environment for better recovery. As the societal impact of multi-trauma is large, the patients should be kept in the rehabilitation centres for better treatment with short stay and cost effectiveness (Nochajski & Matteliano, 2008). Conclusion The OTPF is an effective framework for treating the patients suffering from long-term trauma. The OTPF is helpful in developing the patients’ condition within the desired timeframe. Apart from this, several medical professionals are suggesting the OTPF with early rehabilitation for treating the psychological patients. Currently, the rehabilitation centres are using the OTPF in their treatment facilities for treating the mentally challenged patients. Currently, the rehabilitation facilities are becoming popular among the occupational therapists. It has been observed that the rehabilitation centres are innovative as well as cautious regarding the treatment procedures of the patients. People suffering from any disorder are the prior needy of the rehabilitation treatment for better and quick revival. In addition, it has been observed that the people with cognitive and physical challenges are beneficial of the treatment based on the OTPF as well as early rehabilitation intervention.
