Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care year 2 This case study is about a person d Sam who has learning disabilities. A care package is selected for him that will help to fulfill many of its learning and health care needs. There are various laws enforced by the government that safeguard the health and safety rights of the people with learning disabilities. It’s the regular practice of successful nations that they are coming up with new strategies that may help such individual to increase the health standards which may help them in learning. Health care package for individuals with learning disability White paper aims to develop strategies for people with learning disabilities. They want that the people with mental disabilities must develop in health, personal and professional life. (Department of Health). In their views no matter how complicated an individual is in terms of learning he has a complete right to acquire a home of their own and they must have an easy access to all the health care facilities. Its aim is to develop the health care service so that they may help the individual with learning disabilities to improve the standard of their life and to make them adaptable to the changes taking place in their life. There are many institutes that are working on the policies of white paper. One of them is “pathway care solutions”. This care institution works for the people with learning disabilities, the one suffering from autistic syndrome, people with physical disabilities, individual with challenging behavior and children or youth at the risk of self-harm (Learning Disabilities). Their services are influenced by the mansell report which states the guidelines for what are the compulsory objectives of a care institutes. Package care solutions try to give their best services to the people with disabilities so that they may get their outcome in the form of improvement in the patients. This health care firm was established in 2000. Their health care services and residential care are for adults as well as children. Their motto is as simple as “quality care better future”. Their agenda is that every individual matters even if the individual is disabled, he or she is important. Pathway solutions have small home with usually 3 children or adults and the staff to take care of them. Each house is carefully selected. The important factor that the management of package care keeps in mind while selecting the house is that the environment must be nurturing for the coming individual and that they must be easily adaptable to it (About - Our Homes). Package care solutions work on the agenda that every individual is important therefore their house ensures that the individual is healthy and safe, secondly that the individual is at ease and is enjoying itself. They also make sure that the house as well as the staff is contributing positively towards the health of the individual or not. Package Care Solution benefits for the individual The attitude of people has surely developed for the individual with disabilities. There are many health care services that have been derived for individual with learning disabilities (Hogg 333–336). Package care can be a perfect health care package for Sam. This is because it will provide him a complete learning environment which will help him to nurture. If Sam starts living in the package care house, this can be an important step for his life. He does not have to depend on anyone to take care of him as he has a whole staff to take care of him. He will also be provided with a family like environment where he is free to do what he desires. This health care institute will give him chances to develop as an individual and will help him in learning. As there will be one or more individual like him so he will get to know other as well, this may also contribute toward his personality building. Local policies for individuals with learning disabilities The individual with learning disabilities over the age of 18 years have the same rights as normal individual in UK. They have the freedom as every other citizen living in the country (1124–1128). They are allowed to use the occupation of their choice. Go in any normal institute they wish. Such individuals also have various protection rights that may protect them from vulnerable adults. Their parents may not be with them always; therefore this right contributes toward the protection of a disabled person from the cruel society. The person with learning disability has the right to vote for the candidate he or she likes. The disabled individual has the same voting right as any other citizen of the state. The state is contributing toward giving such individual their deserving place in the society by increasing their rights. There are various acts that safeguard the rights of the disabled people in the work force. “Disability discrimination act 1995” promotes the right of the disable in the work force. According to this act there must be no discrimination among the people on the basis of any disability, employees and applicants must be judges on the basis of their skills and experience (Occupational Health Legislation). The “equality act of 2010” was an effort of the government to eliminate the inequality in the work place for the disabled (The right to equality). It also provides the services of transport for the disabled (Making transport more accessible to all). Future changing in the policies and rights for the disabled It’s the responsibility of the employer to take care of the rights of their disabled employees (Employees health and safety responsibilities). The right of people with learning disabilities must be promoted on international level (Parry 1191–1209). There are many third world countries that do not have resources and rights for disabled people. Such individuals must be provided with health care and employment opportunities. There must be policies which support the employment rights of such individuals. Conclusion Individual with learning disabilities requires special care by the health care institutions as well as their families. There must be more and policies which must protect their rights as a citizen and must give them access towards the basic necessities. Work Cited About - Our Homes. 2011. 17 March 2013 .
