HL7 Functional Model and Meaningful Use Objectives al Affiliation) According to Meaningful Use - Wyoming Electronic Health Record Incentive, even though the requirements of eligible partners and hospitals for complying with Meaningful Use are relatively straight forward, making the processes operational is very challenging. Easy access to information technology in timely fashion can be very critical in the adoption of the measures and objectives of MU (Meaningful Use). In recent years, there have been increasing efforts to communicate the role of HL7 in Meaningful Use.

In essence, HL7 is a transmission protocol in Meaningful Use and therefore have a great role to play in supporting Meaningful Use requirements in the future (Meaningful Use - Wyoming Electronic Health Record Incentive, 2012).According to HL7 Overview - A Comprehensive Guide to HL7, HL7 is a standardized syntax involve in formatting and passing data via a message between computer systems. A medical concept is only achieved through the combination of the HL7 model and standardized medical vocabulary.

The objectives of the HL7 model are easily identifiable. However, the objectives of the Meaningful Use are not straight forward and may even seem arbitrary. The only way to analyze their objectives and use to the healthcare system is by viewing the parts as a whole and as a single part (HL7 Overview - A Comprehensive Guide to HL7, 2008).HL7 functional models have a lot to offer in terms of offering support to solutions. They are used to improve the abilities of the HIE interface, improve storage and data collection standards, enhance data transfer abilities and enhance reporting and extraction of core measures.

On the other hand, the reasons for improving Meaningful Use are mainly centered on figuring how electronic health records can be beneficial to patients and healthcare providers. They include- providing accurate and sufficient information that is easily accessible to the healthcare providers, providing improved access to information through sharing vital clinical information and empowering the patient so that he/she can be more involved in the health status of his/her family members.ReferencesHL7 Overview - A Comprehensive Guide to HL7.
