Anti –smoking ordinances Introduction Anti –smoking ordinances are the rules and regulations that are passed in a community or state concerning smoking. Anti –smoking laws are assigned to a class of laws like for instance those controlling littering (Mitchell 200). They give a definition of what is termed as smoking, process of smoking, for instance whether electronic or using pipes, and the places that smoking is allowed or not allowed. The rules and regulations also give a description of fines imposed on those who violate this rules at different instances.

Most local ordinances affect tobacco smoking and most states restrict smoking in public places and a few even forbid employees of a certain job from smoking (Mitchell 200).Anti –smoking ordinances in the communityThe smoking ordinances in our community define smoking as the smoking of tobacco including cigarettes, and all other products related to tobacco. Prohibition of tobacco products is therefore prohibited in places of accommodation and entertainment, places of work, public places, parks and buildings, public vehicles and any other means of public transport, social areas such as bars and restaurants.

The ordinances allow the involved parties to put up posters restricting smoking in these places. The smoking ordinances however define the allowed smoking areas in commercial and business places where smoking is allowed. These places are designed to be away from other people. Smokers can therefore visit these places and smoke without any fines being imposed on them. The anti –smoking force further allow the people who serve at these places to act as their supervisors and report any persons who are found smoking in these areas.

The school in addition has rules and regulations that prohibit smoking around the campus. These rules prevent people from smoking around the campus area and impose a fine to those that are found smoking. The effectiveness of the rule is ensured by putting up posters that indicate that people are not allowed to smoke. The rule has been effective with many people having to pay the fines due to smoking. Others have learned from the experience of those that have already paid the fines and thus are able to refrain from smoking.

Support for the anti –smoking regulationsThe main advantage attained in support of the regulation is the health benefit that arises from absence of smoking (Mitchell 202). These are instances such as a notable decline in the levels of harmful compounds in the air, resulting to reduction in the levels of air pollution which in turn has resulted to significant reduction in heart attack levels. Cases of respiratory problems as well have reduced as a result of people not smoking in public and social places.

Cases of lungs problems have also reduced and this has been observed largely to people working in social places for instance bar. The change is observed in comparison to the times in absence of the smoking regulations when people could smoke anywhere at any times. Therefore the health benefits achieved lead to the support of the regulations against smoking.Works citedMitchell, Chet N. The Drug Solution. Ottawa: Carleton University Press, 1990. Print.
