Problems Caused By L-6 Vertebrae and Their Solution PROBLEMS CAUSED BY L-6 VERTEBRAE AND THEIR SOLUTION Some people have experienced abnormalities whereby an extra lumbar vertebra develops in their vertebral column. In most cases, this bone called the sixth lumbar vertebra (L-6) has no benefits to the victims. This phenomenon is often seen when the L6 lumbar develops at older ages of life. The logic underlying this phenomenon is that normal body metabolism enables it to produce just enough cerebrospinal fluid for its normal functioning. The additional joint between L6-L5 lumbar vertebrae calls for extra cerebrospinal fluid.

It takes time for the body to adjust to the new metabolism. Sometimes it may not adjust at all, imposing serious health problems on the victim (Sellone & Long, 2007). Nevertheless, to some people, this abnormality has no demerits at all; very few though. This disorder itself has no cure unless it is through a surgical process by professional surgeons. Even though it is curable, the patient never remains the same. One develops weaknesses some of which may be so adverse to the patient, or even worse than the previous condition in which the patient was while experiencing the abnormality.

Physical exercise is necessary for people with this abnormality. Victims should visit neurological doctors and surgeons for advice and check, just in case, they might have developed any disorder or disease related to the abnormality (Weaver & Poloso, 2005). The patients should also visit the physical therapists especially when they are old, to keep them physically fit. Doctors are advised to be keen while giving injections to avoid causing more harm to the patients because some L6 lumbar vertebra is not easily noticed.
