Extract of sample "OSHA Inspections and Investigations"

According to the Occupational Safety & Health Administration’s (OSHA) (2002) published a report on OSHA Inspections, there are different types of inspections and investigations categorized as follows: (1) those that are considered inspection priorities (such as imminent danger situations; catastrophes and fatal accidents that could potentially endanger the lives of the personnel through causing possible injuries, hospitalization and even death of three or more employees; and those reported as complaints or referrals of unsafe or hazardous working conditions); (2) those that are considered programmed inspections, identified to be focused on “specific high-hazard industries, workplaces, occupations, or health substances, or other industries identified in OSHA’s current inspection procedures” (OSHA, 2002); and finally, (3) follow up inspections, are inspections that determine if the employer has corrected previously noted violations from past inspections.

The examples for those classified under inspection priorities are situations where some employees perceive that working conditions in their organization are apparently hazardous and need to be duly addressed by the employer (in handling new chemicals, for instance, or in the design of the organization’s structure).
