Running Head: World Health Organization: An Introduction World Health Organization: An Introduction s IntroductionOrganization is a place in which hundreds of people work together for the achievement of a specific and pre-specified goal. According to Aqib (2010), one of the greatest authors of his time, organization is a place depends upon different departments and every department work together to increase the performance of the company (Aqib & Javaid, 2010). Inevitably, the main perspective of every organization is to increase the shareholder’s equity (Aqib & Javaid, 2010). In a broad nutshell, there are different kinds of organizations, which predominantly are, profit organizations and not for profit organization. The strategy and theme of working of both of these kinds of organizations are similar to each other but different in concepts (Aqib & Javaid, 2010). To understand the concept and theme of the profit organizations is not at all an uphill task but the concept of not for profit organization is little bit different from profit organization (Edwin & Ruud, 2010). Not-for-profit organizations work for humanity not for the sake of money. Currently there are number of not-for-profit organizations as well as nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) are working (Edwin & Ruud, 2010). Among number of types of such organizations, the name of World Health Organization (WHO) is one of them, which are quite famous in the entire world due to its wonderful and noble work. The main perspective of this assignment is to ink down about this particular organization in details which includes its thorough description, its demographics, the types of services offers the company and the reason why this organization has been chosen for this particular paper. A Through Description: WHO The acronym of WHO is “World Health Organization” is basically an organization cum specialized agency comes under the ambit of the United Nations (UN) (Edwin & Ruud, 2010). The organization has been designed specifically to remain in concern with the health of the international public. WHO is one of the oldest Not for profit organizations of the world which established in the year 1948 (Edwin & Ruud, 2010). The organization has it’s headquarter in Geneva, Switzerland and it is one of the important members of the United Nations Development Group (UNDG) (Edwin, & Ruud, 2010). There are currently more than 100 members of the United Nations but at the time of the establishment of WHO, there were 61 members only and all of them duly signed on the constitution of World Health Organization (WHO, 2012). The first meeting of the World Health Assembly (WHA) finished in the year 1948 (Edwin & Ruud, 2010). Since the creation of this largest health organization of the world, it is responsible for playing a leading role in eradicating of smallpox. Particularly, ‘WHO’ is basically a part of the League of Nations Health Organization (LNHO) that established after the First World War (Edwin & Ruud, 2010). At that time, the main theme of LNHO was to endeavor to take serious steps to prevent and control diseases. The initiative of LNHO continued by United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA) after the First World War and played a vital role in taking numerous health care initiatives (Edwin & Ruud, 2010). The things and initiatives were extremely unmanaged at that time and during the fiscal year of 1946; Economic and Social Council of the United Nation had proposed in the United Nation Conference that an international body has to be established in order to prevent the people from different kinds of diseases. At the time of its establishment, it is clear that this particular organization would have been made for the entire world instead of a particular country that is why it is referred as World rather than “International” (Edwin & Ruud, 2010). In its first budget, the members of the UN had secured and allocated a net budget of US$ 5 million for the fiscal year 1949. At that time, the organization spread its roots to control diseases like malaria, tuberculosis and sexually transmitted infections (Fisk, 2010). Apart from that, improvement of health of children and maternal were some of the major concern for the organization at that time. Currently, WHO is operating with 6 major objectives in its mind which are mentioned below, Providing leadership on specific matters, which are critical to health and engage in different sorts of partnership wherein a joint action is needed To evaluate and shape the research agenda and simulating the generation Transfer and implant sufficient knowledge and information to the people regarding different health issues and try to set different standards and doctrine in order to promote and monitor the same Evaluate and implement different ethical standards Proving technical support and sustainable institutional capacity Monitoring the health situation of the world from different parameters and assessing the health trends The next section of the assignment would pen down the demographics in which the organization serves. The Demographics Serves by World Health Organization The World Health Organization (WHO, 2012) operates in 147 different countries of the world including its regional offices located in European Union, United Nation, World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF). Apart from that, the organization also operates in International Agency for Research on Cancer in Lyons, France and Kobe (Fisk, 2010). At the time of establishment, the organization had only 61 members but currently it has 194 members in the entire world including the Cook Island and Niue. There are some diplomatic recognitions and members which are not the members of WHO. Currently, WHO is playing its active part in different parts of the world, especially in the third world countries and in the countries which are in the state of War like Afghanistan and Pakistan (Fisk, 2010). The organization is actively working in countries where in the stance of war is very high. WHO is one of those organizations, which are totally against the current violence happening in the world, even totally against the War on Terror (WOT). The organization has a single aim, which is to promote health among different parts of the world and WHO is doing it perfectly. Types of Services, the Organization Offers There are number of services which this organization offers which include elimination of smallpox, prevention of health and different types of diseases (Fisk, 2010). The major emphasize of WHO is on the prevention of the communicable diseases like HIV and Aids, tuberculosis and malaria. Apart from these services, the organization also enters in mitigating the adverse effects of sexual and reproductive health, development, ageing, nutrition and food security problems. In addition to these services, WHO has also promoted the safety of roads (Fisk, 2010). World Health Organization organizes World Health Day each year that focuses on a particular health promotional topic. Drug resistance is the most focused area on which the organization arranged different seminars and debates (Fisk, 2010). One of the best services for which the organization is actively working is to reduce human trafficking and reduce abortion types of things. The World Health Organization (WHO) is a member of United Nation Development Group and it is doing a perfect job in promoting health initiatives in different parts of the world. Reason to Choose this Agency This section specifically deals with the reason to choose this particular agency as there are number of other alternatives is there (Kotler, 2010). The primary reason to choose this particular agency is its size and number of different services which the company is wishing to give its end users (Kotler, 2010). World Health Organization (WHO, 2012), which has the largest network of promoting health initiatives in different countries, has one thing which is promoting different health initiatives. Apart from that, there is another reason that induced us to select this particular agency to analyze is its intention to stop the War against Terror. Causalities caused from bomb blast and other violent act has been strongly condemned by the WHO. Conclusion The entire world is a potpourri of diversified in which people belong to different demographics and mindset work together. The cumulative working is important for both short and long term growth and running of a country (Kotler, 2010). Analysis is one of the toughest works performed on this earth merely because of its very nature. The main perspective of this paper is also based upon analysis regarding an organization. Among different kinds of organization, there is a type of Nongovernmental organization, with the name of World Health Organization (WHO, 2012). The main perspective of this assignment is to ink down about this particular organization in details which includes its thorough description, its demographics, the types of services offers the company and the reason why this organization has been chosen.
