The diseases caused when nicotine is inhaled in to the lungs are not hidden from anyone. Lung cancer, bronchitis, and heart disease are the most dangerous ones. Nicotine stains the teeth; smokers constantly complain of chest pain and cough. Tobacco is a depressant rather than a stimulant. Apart from this is it also causes risks to the non-smokers who are exposed to the smoke from smokers. This is known as passive smoking and this danger does not arise from the use of any other drug. ‘No other consumer product in the history of the world has even come close to inflicting this amount of damage on mankind’, says Colin Williams (Tobacco - A Crime Against Humanity).

Tobacco smokers are usually daily smokers and more often than not chain smokers. Sixty-five percent of male cigarette smokers in Japan smoke between 20 and 40 cigarettes per day. Studies conducted by Dr. Donald Tashkin of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) revealed that lung function degraded much more dramatically amongst tobacco smokers when compared to marijuana smokers (A to Z of drugs), which further proves that tobacco is the most dangerous drug. Cigarette, nicotine or tobacco is given the legal status and hence people live under the impression that it is less harmful than other illegal drugs.

Having now established that tobacco is the most dangerous drug in the world, one must understand the relationship between this drug and crime. Nobody is born a criminal; criminals are manufactured (Criminology).
