? Addressing Internal Disaster Addressing Internal Disaster Size and type of your hospital The hospital under focus is a level 5 hospital. This hospital is well equipped with the modern equipments that are necessary to combat all forms of disaster that may strike the locals. The hospital is wide enough designed to contain a capacity of four hundred patients and a well trained personnel of different qualifications to handle all aspects of emergency. The human resource that we have is well capacitated to handle all the menace that we may face. The hospital is located in an accessible area with adequate number of vehicles necessary to respond to all manner of calls. The hospital is sub divided into different sections and areas that ensures well coordination of activities. The capacity of the hospital gives the employees and the clients’ confidence of operation and quality delivery of services. Type of internal Disaster The type of disaster that the hospital is adequately prepared to handle most often is that of fire. This is because the hospital is situated in an industrial area where such incidences of firebreak out are common. The hospital is well equipped with medications and experts who are well trained to handle such incidences further; there is a distinct section that is only categorized to handle such issues of fire treatments. The hospital is also equipped with fire extinguishing materials and equipments necessary in handling such disasters. the hospital also has trained people who would swiftly aid in the evacuation of rooms and handle patients with a lot care. Fire is the major internal disaster that can cause havoc to the functionality of the hospital though we are well set to handle such a scenario. Key medical and administrative staff to be contacted The tragedy of fire is on the constant rise and hospitals should define the clear criteria of handling the emergency. In case of the fire breakout, the office of the fire control unit should be contacted immediately. Alternatively, the hospital has fire button-alarms in every corner of the hospital. Should one suspect the outbreak of fire, they are urged to dial the fire alerts to prompt a rapid response. Our personnel are well trained to coordinate their activities to minimize the likely outbreaks and to minimize harm caused in case of the firebreak out. We also have the risk managers to be contacted. The risk managers are helpful throughout. In case of any noted likely cause of fire, they are to be alerted to fix things to ensure that there is no fire breakout in the hospital. The managers of the surgical operating rooms and the departmental heads are also to be contacted in case of a fire breakout (Weinberg, 2003). This is essential to enable them make necessary adjustments to prevent to hazardous effects of fire. The combined efforts for this people is necessary in ensuring that safety is kept in the hospital at all times and that the affected people in case of the hazard receive rapid response and treatments. Central point of communication Communication is an important factor in the operation of the hospital. There is a need to define a clear mode of communication as this ensures that there is coordination of activities in the hospital. Clear communication helps in avoiding confusion of operation and avoidance of problems that may occur. Communication helps in coordinating key decision making in the hospital and effective collaboration and operations. The intent and the messages from the hospital to the public should also be well maintained to avoid misunderstanding by the public. To manage this, hospital has a spokesperson under the communication office. This person is responsible for any communication with the public and the media. Any inquiry made to the hospital is through the information office and clarity regarding the same is given through the hospital spokesperson. The spokesperson is thus the official communication officers whose sentiments are official and communicates the position of the hospital. In communication that comes from another person, not without his authority is a mere speculation and rumors. The hospital also has direct and brief writings in the hospital to enable easy communication with the patients and the public. Service unit There are situations, which require keen attention. For instance, those who are seriously injured are put in special rooms for special attention. The fire surgical unit is well equipped with medial machines necessary in arresting every situation. Our rapid response medical doctors are also alert with the modern expertise in the emergency rooms to intervene in such cases. We have experts who are in constant research and study on how to handle various complications (Myers, 2012). The fire therapy is a department in our hospital that ensure that all cases related to fire burns, suffocations cause by fire, and health conditions that are developed as a result of fire are arrested. We have the most modern measure of ensuring that fire cases are well handled in the best manner possible. How you intend to coordinate with those facilities and hospitals Our hospital has adequate facility to handle its defined patient surge. Other than that, the hospital has adequate doctors and medical practitioners well trained to handle cases that are presented. However, this does not make us complete as to stand-alone. We need people and people need us for effective functionality. We offer our doctors and consultants to other hospitals; also on request, we allow our doctors to operate in those hospitals in case of dare need. We also use the facilities and equipments available in other hospitals to enable us discharge our duties efficiently. We value learning and exchange programs. This is important to enable us develop our capacity. A developed capacity of a workforce is essential in ensuring that services are well delivered. This is our promise: efficient service delivery at all times. We also collaborate with hospitals with research centers to get the updates on the current medicals and disease developments. Through these elements of hospital functionality, we endeavor for collaboration and partnerships. Implementation of internal transfer The hospital is well designed to handle different types of ailments. People who are suffering from contagious diseases are having separate rooms where they are put. This is to ensure safety of other patients. In addition, should a patient show symptoms of contagious and infectious diseases that could put other people into risk, and then they are immediately transferred to special rooms for special attention and care (Turner, 1988). Other than that, the hospital also takes care of people who are recovering; those who shows improvement are often transferred to separate rooms for further medical attention. The change of environment is important in the hospital. It gives a psychological shift to the patient preparing them to have an attitude of recovery. The transfers are also done to ensure that there is a coordinated record keeping of the patients. It is preferred that patients with the same conditions are put together to allow the medical practitioners as well as the medics on duty to have a coordinated service delivery. Implementation of external transfers The hospital is a level 5 hospital with the capacity to handle most of the basic ailments. The hospital also has human capacity to deal with the cases admitted in the hospital adequately. Nevertheless, the hospital works in collaboration with other hospitals with different expertise. In case a case is noted, which needs a different attention adequately available in a hospital; a patient would be recommended for such a hospital. Our hospital always arranges on how the patient is transferred to such a hospital to receive maximum attention and care. We care for the patients and collaboration is one of our major strengths at work. Evacuation Plan The hospital also has an adequate evacuation measures to advance the efficiency of its functionality. The hospital arranges for the rooms where patients are taken in case of an emergency (Nance, 2008). This is done with trained groups of professionals. In case of any inadequacy, the hospital arranges with other hospitals with adequate capacity to help in handling the same situation. This is timely done to avoid any form of confusion in the hospital. This is also well coordinated to ensure that all other hospital operation and functionality are well taken care of at all times.
