?The rehabilitation institute of Chicago was founded back in the 20th century and has been in service to fering care to people with disability. It was founded by Dr Paul Magnuson in a renovated warehouse, where it began humbly with orthopedic services catering for victims of the Second World War as he had witnessed the occurrences and tragedies from the same war. The rehabilitation institute then came under the leadership of Dr Henry Bate who advanced the medical mission of the institute concerning creating RIC's Flagship Hospital and creating a research institute, as well as providing education and advocacy for people suffering from disabilities (Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, n.d. b). The organization has enjoyed the support of the Chicago community since its founding, especially with the incorporation of Dr Henry Bates into the organization, where together with Dr. Paul Magnuson; they rallied support of the local community to begin the institute in an old warehouse. In addition, the organization went further to create a department of physical medicine and rehabilitation through residency after Dr Betts was selected chairperson of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Feinberg School of Medicine, and Northwestern University. From this, the rehabilitation organization began its first research project, which has seen it become one of the largest and most dynamic programs on research in the country. It was after this that the organization went on further to generate its educational program through the RIC Academy, which was and is an education and training center. The institution founded intensive injury prevention programs, which were aimed at preventing injuries associated with accidents. This is inspired by the death of a young teenager that occurred in a racing event with his friends. The entire organization and its offices, as well as its facilities, were built based on the resources of the local community, where there were private contributions and grants from the government. Owing to its humble beginnings, the mission of the organization is to provide the highest possible level of quality patient care using its various facilities and institutions. These include as integrated research, scientific discovery and education; all this is with the common goal of assisting individuals under their care to recover to the best possible position with hope, compassion, discovery, collaboration and commitment. In addition to having a mission statement, the organization also has a vision, where it seeks to be the world’s leading scientific hospital for innovation and application if new and promising treatments. This is with the aim of improving and eliminating the outcomes of injury, disease and other debilitating health conditions (Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, n.d. c). In terms of quality, which the organizations refers to repeatedly, it refers to rate and level of success that they achieve in assisting people with disabilities continue their lives in independence and fulfillment. The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago seeks to protect patients, preserve the integrity and advance health, where the organization works towards complying with federal conflict of interest regulations and standards for the purpose of integrity. The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago offers a wide range of services that cater for amputations and limb deficiencies, arthritis and joint conditions, brain injuries. It is for this reason that the rehabilitation institute has been ranked highly in providing quality care by the U.S. News & World Report for specialized service on stroke rehabilitation (Cross, 2010). In conclusion, Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago is an institute that offers numerous services that are crucial to the society in that it serves at improving the lives of those afflicted with misfortunes of injuries. As a result, the institute has seen the provision of these services to many patients with attention paid to specialization and quality for superior care, hence the best ranking nationally.
