Having good social skills, I would be able to accomplish such tasks with least inconvenience. In the job of a Medical Transcriptionist, my good artistic skills would help me to find creative solutions to the problems I might encounter in my work, and also help me in times of emergency when a Medical Transcriptionist has to work without a defined set of rules. My good enterprising skills would help me to lead my staff effectively so that they show more productivity. I particularly need to improve my investigative, conventional, and realistic skills.

To enhance my investigative skills, I need to do more creative thinking. This can be achieved by indulging in such creative works as essay writing, or designing things and products. Such exercises would boost my creativity so that I come up with new and innovative ideas to be able to figure out the problems in medical terms, and drug references. Writing essays would also enable me to enhance my concentration and work constantly for long periods of time that are some of the skills needed by a Medical Transcriptionist.

“A medical transcriptionist must sit in front of a computer for long periods of time with one foot on a foot pedal. Good focus is imperative as making mistakes on a patient's medical report could very well endanger the patient's life” (Peques, 2009). . Self-discipline means establishing rules for myself. By self-disciplining myself, I would get used to working in environment with clear rules and regulations. I can self-discipline myself by making a schedule of activities and tasks that I want to achieve on daily basis, and make every possible effort to achieve them as per the schedule.

Moreover, I need to learn to become a good follower to improve my conventional skills. To be a good follower, I need to take instructions from somebody so that he/she plays the role of a leader for me. Joining courses of computer softwares like EMR systems would not only improve my realistic skills, but also my conventional skills since as a student, I would learn to follow my instructor and thus enhance my conventional skills. Improving my conventional skills would enable me to pay more attention towards details which in turn would enhance my ability to identify practicable solutions to the problems at hand.

It is quite understandable that I am weakest as a realistic since I my strongest quality as a Medical Transcriptionist is being social. Being social and being realistic are in a way at the opposite ends of a continuum since the people with social skills are more interested in spending time with people rather than machinery, plants, or animals whereas the people with realistic skills have opposite interests. However, in order to be a good Medical Transcriptionist, it is imperative that one maintains a balance between being social and being realistic.
