Frequent hand washing is among the most efficient protective measures against food borne diseases. Food safety involves analyzing food to ascertain that it is free of pathogens. As a safety measure, all hot foods must be kept steaming hot while cold food must be kept under very low temperatures to ensure that pathogenic microorganisms, which thrive in moderate temperatures are deactivated. Secondly, all foods must be cooked in a proper and prescribed manner. Additionally, uncooked and cooked food must be kept separate to avoid contamination.

Before and after cooking, hands must be washed with soap and dried well with a clean hand towel. Lastly, the kitchen must be kept tidy and clean at all times to prevent contamination of food. The public is hereby cautioned that failure to implement the outlined food safety measures will lead costly diseases. Example ailments caused by bacteria include; campylobacter jejuni, salmonella and Escherichia coli bacteria (Humphrey et al., 2007). These bacteria cause various ailments most of which lead to death within a short period.

Food related viral diseases include hepatitis, A which causes liver jaundice, rotavirus, which cause extreme diarrhea among the young children and infants and norovirus, which causes viral gastroenteritis in all humans of all ages (Marshall& Bruggink, 2006). There are other ailments caused by viruses which the public is pledged to research and find more about them. Lastly, there are ailments caused by parasites which hide in the food hence causing illness to the humans. The community is highly cautioned to watch out the way it handles, prepares and stores food to avoid probable deaths from the diseases discussed.

To acquire more information it is recommended that the public must visit trusted websites and government health agencies to find more about prevention of these diseases and how to handle food. Most important, we have the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Center for Food Safety & Applied Nutrition, world Health organization websites, food and drug administration and food standards agencies. The websites offer a good platform for research on various causes of food poisoning and how to prevent some of the diseases caused by food poisoning.
