Over the years, diabetes cases have increased in medical institutions.

The current state of the problem Like most kidney diseases, diabetes has no immediate cure (American Diabetes Association, para. 4). The cure for diabetes involves a long term treatment. In some cases, the treatment of the disorder requires a kidney transplant. With the cost of this procedure, many individuals choose to live on daily treatments. Apart from the cost, the number of kidney donors has also decreased. The article in the New York Times argued that many people fear to donate their kidneys in fear of themselves succumbing to kidney failures (para. 5). Additionally, many family doctors discourage their clients from donating their kidneys because of the increased risks in succumbing to kidney failures.

Diabetes is one of the most sensitive clinical problems the medical field faces today. Another astonishing finding is the fact that diabetes is a major cause of stroke and heart diseases. It is estimated about 5 % of many heart illnesses at old age are accompanied by the effects of diabetes.
