Specifically, the outlined program seeks to equip refugees and immigrants with the right tools, ideas, techniques, and supports to help them improve but also to maintain their health. This program targets the refuge and immigrant communities in the United States’ urban centers, which have large populations of immigrants and refugees. Particularly core among the reasons for this program is that considerably many refugees and immigrants in urban neighborhoods face myriad health challenges, including difficulties in accessing and affording appropriate social and health services and high rates of chronic health problems (Kemp & Rasbridge, 2004).

This program specially seeks to address the major causes of the mentioned challenges, which are lack of education, cultural differences, and language barriers. As a result of these barriers, the immigrant and refugee community in most US neighborhoods find it rather difficult for these groups to obtain culturally diverse and appropriate services and outreach information to help them live healthy lives. The Objectives of the Project As a result of the health needs of refugees and immigrants in urban centers, this program has been established with several aims in mind.

First, the program will implement new community-based approaches that will be effective in addressing the health care problems facing immigrants and refugees in urban centers. Thus, the project will address strategies and policies by which health and social systems will accommodate the diverse and unique needs of the diverse and ever-changing immigrant and refugee population. Similarly, the program will incorporate strategies to support the direct engagement of immigrants in issues touching on their health to overcome health and other social service barriers to enhance health care accessibility and affordability.

By linking refugees’ and immigrants’ social factors such as poor education, poverty, language skills, and significant cultural differences, the program will be useful in prioritizing the health needs and outcomes of refuge and immigrant populations. The other goals of the program are to lower immigrant- and refugee-related health disparities inherent in many urban health facilities and build the capacity of other community-based, academic, and healthcare organizations that not only deal in general health matters but also specifically collect and analyze immigrant and refugee data for the implementation of beneficial health programs.

In this process, the program, with the assistance of other similar projects, will create many opportunities for more beneficial partnerships and collaborations among stakeholders. Besides improving resource sharing, the program will offer customized training for staff and public, research services, technical assistance, and research library among others. Since the program is intended to be non-profit, several sources of finance will be considered, including government funds, corporate donations, bank loans, and individual donations.

Several barriers will however jeopardize the effectiveness of the program. These include cultural differences, communication barriers, and cost (Kahn, 2011).
