U.S Health Care System The united health care system has often been considered as the best health care system in the world. The health care system might be the best but the implication of this consideration is exaggerative. Such implication does not define the system perfectly since it does not give adequate information on the U.S health care system. This is my position on the concept of status of the U.S health care system in relation to the book Delivering Healthcare in America. According to the book Delivering Healthcare in America, the United States has a unique healthcare system.
I fully concur with this statement since the delivery of healthcare services in the united state is incomparable to other countries (Shi, & Singh, 2004). Although the uniqueness has often been mistaken for perfection, I strongly feel that United States healthcare system has its weaknesses. Unlike the healthcare systems of most developed countries particularly the European countries, the US healthcare system lacks equality. Shi and Singh (2004) confirm that the United States health care system has “un-equal access to health care services due to lack of insurance for all American.
” The authors also demonstrate that the US health care system has been fully commercialized. The commercialization of the healthcare system results from existence of third-party insurers and the ever-growing private sector. This characteristic indicates imperfections and weaknesses that the health care providers need to consider. There is no perfect health care system in the world and therefore the US health care system is not an exception (Shi, & Singh, 2004). The imperfection of U.S health care system does not suggest that the system lacks positive values.
Indeed the U.S health care system is incomparable to healthcare systems in most countries. The objective of a health care system in a country is to ensure quality life through the provision of medical services to all people. This means that the community health in a country is beyond individual health. Most health care systems however are more concerned with individual health in the expense of the overall community health. This situation is however different with the U.S health care system due to the recent integration of individual and community health (Shi, & Singh, 2004.
This integration has been of great significance in the treatment of patients with acute illnesses. The integration of community health with individual health is a positive step towards the achievement quality health care in the country. I consider the integration as the most significant achievement in the U.S health care since the passing of the Health Care Act. Most people in U.S have viewed the privatization of the health care system as a way to widen the gap between the rich and the poor. Privatization of the system has received a lot of criticism from the public sector due to its unpromising future.
The federal government has the responsibility of providing quality health care services to all us citizens. Although the government considers the provision of health service as its major responsibility, I think the task is beyond the government’s capacity. The development of the private healthcare system should therefore be viewed positively. The country will achieve a perfect health care system if people are ready to take their responsibilities. A functioning health care system is an important achievement in U.S. Health care providers in the country therefore need to consider applying collective measures to achieve perfection in health care system.
My views towards the health care system are therefore important to the health care providers in the country. My views on the U.S health care system support privatization and the integration of community health with individual health. Free health care for all people is an important vision for U.S. The vision is achievable, sustainable, and realistic if all the stakeholders would work in unison. Privatization of the U.S health care system is an important step towards sustainability and development.
Recently I had visited a public clinic in California and my experience from this visit made me to visualize the future of our health care system. During this visit, I was instructed to buy my medicine from a private pharmacy by my prescribing doctor. The clinic had the required drugs but the move was intended to make people realize that good health has a cost. Conclusion The US health care service has often been described as the best in the world. This does not imply that US has a perfect health care system since the sector has significant weaknesses.
The commercialization of provision of health care in the country is an important step toward quality services. Privatization of the health care system and the integration of community health with individual health is a significant trend in US health care system. Reference Shi, L. & Singh, A. D. (2004).
