(Mullis, R and Davis, M, 2011, An Ecological Model Approach to Childhood Obesity) A resolution for an issue that arises within a society can be resolved by the society itself where the issue originated from or by a separate entity, through intervention. There are several general tiers that comprise a model for such a process. Take for instance the “socio-ecological model”, starting from its outermost tier to the innermost, it is comprised by, “Public Policy” which is involved in “developing and enforcing state and local policies as well as media campaigns that promote public awareness.

“Community” which includes all coordinating efforts of the community. “Organizational” which involves changing the policies, practices, and physical environment of an organization to support behavior change of the members of the organization. “Interpersonal” recognizes that groups provide social identity and support, interpersonal interventions target groups, such as family members or peers. And Finally the “Individual” which is involved in motivating change in individual behavior by increasing knowledge, or influencing attitudes or challenging beliefs (Bob Wilson BS, 2001-2011, Socio-Ecological Model) However it is worth noting that coming up with a resolution may not usually start from its outermost tier or its inner most.

A resolution or rather an intervention may originate from any of the tiers present, depending on the target area or the area of concern. hence the “trickling-down or rippling-out” effect. Furthermore, a model may not always appear in the configuration that has been long determined since new issues may require the utilization of new intervention models that may have the same elements but are configured differently, which should not be the cause for alarm that policies or resolutions that were formulated and initiated using older intervention models are faulty.

As Abraham Kaplan states “The dangers are not in working with models but in working with too few, and those too much alike, and above all in belittling any effort to work with anything else.” As such to arrive at the best possible solution for a concern it would be ideal to work with multiple models. After having identified all possible models that can be utilized in coming up with the best possible solution it is still wise to make evaluations to make sure that all models that are out into play would be pertinent to the issue at hand.

For this reason there is a need to perform “Formative Evaluations” that are geared towards the target areas that are being addressed by the intervention, as well as “Process Evaluations” that are geared towards the actual intervention and resolution process itself . after performing the needed evaluations, it can now be made clear if the determined resolutions can be replicated as well as if these solutions in the event that they are replicated can still be applicable to other target areas that are experiencing the same issue.
