The infection’s prevalence is further dependent on demographic factors such as age, ethnicity, and locality though such statistics are limited to national and state levels. This paper investigates the relationship between the infection’s prevalence and both ethnicity age with a focus on the age group between 14 to 25 years. It specializes in Miami city to understand how the factors affect people’s risk levels of contracting the infections with the aim of developing regionally based strategies for control measures.
The research adopts a mixed approach that includes both qualitative and quantitative research methods. The quantitative aspect of the research relies on the theory of descriptive correlational research while the qualitative aspect relies on the theory of reasoned action. A sample of 638 participants will be considered for the quantitative studies. Participants will then be randomly asked to further participate in the qualitative research and a sample of 53 participants will be used. While tests will be used to determine the participant's infections status, survey questionnaires will collect data on the participants’ infection history while qualitative data will be collected from direct interviews.
Data will then be analyzed using SPSS to generate both descriptive and inferential statistics. Miami is a city in Florida with diversified demographics. It is about 1897 square miles with a population density of about 1315 people per square mile. Its population promises an increasing trend, having increased alongside the state’s population size, from the year 2010 to the year 2011. Women form a majority of the city’s population by gender. By ethnicity, the city is predominantly white at about 77 percent. The black ethnic group also forms a significant percentage of the city’s population at 19 percent (Census, 2012). The city’s rich ethnic mix further offers a wide range of cultures and hence cultural practices. The existence of the different cultures is a factor of historic events.
