s s of Data Analysis Typical attitudes of Chinese modern women towards housewives and working women: Quantitative: To assess the attitudes of Chinese women towards housewives and working women, a questionnaire was designed. The questionnaire was designed with close ended questions to gauge the objective conditions as well as general opinion of the Chinese women. In addition, a few open ended questions were also added which were later analyzed to see how the women opined of housewives and working women. The sample population of 1000 married women was chosen between the age 25-50, considering that the sample would be represented of general population of married women in general. The questionnaires were distributed both online and on paper. The online surveys were taken via Weibo and Facebook considering that the younger population of women i.e. 25 to 35 years of age would be fluent with social media and thus, their views would be appropriate enough to validate the study. However, around 600 people were surveyed on paper for which the older generation from 36 to 50 years of age was targeted. The close ended questions were analyzed to measure the objective conditions of women of china. That is, 70 percent of the younger generation questioned had their views dependent of the work and income status of the women. Out of these 70 percent of women who based their opinion on the work status of other women, around 9.2 percent were the ones who considered that women with a higher income and job status were unable to balance between their domestic and professional life. However, rest of the population of younger slot of women thought that women with a higher income status are financially satisfied and self determines which gives them a sense of self fulfillment which also contributes towards a healthy personal life alongside a healthy professional life. However, the older generation interviewed on paper expressed a different opinion regarding working women. Out of the older generation surveyed via paper, around 65 percent viewed highly of housewives and thought that unless financial constraints arise, women shouldn`t pursue working as that disturbs their marital life. However, 35 percent of these women thought that with higher education, higher income status can be achieved which is essential for self fulfillment of women; and thus such women must be encouraged. Benefits of being housewives as against those of being working women: To further qualitatively measure how being a housewife has its own advantages as opposed to the advantages of being a working woman in China, various interviews were conducted. The interview sample was different from that of the sample chosen for conducting surveys. To conduct interviews, 50 people were chosen from rich families deliberately to see how the financial trends influence the working experiences of women. Out of these 50 individuals belonging from rich families, around 5 women were from working class which other 45 were housewives. This trend indicates clearly that only women who had financial constraints wished to work while those from well off families preferred to stay at home. Furthermore, 100 individuals were interviewed from typical city families; out of which 58 were working women which 42 were housewives. This indicates that city life constitutes more working women and thus, the trend in cities is favorable towards women aiming to work. Also, 50 people belonging from rural family were interviewed out of which 33 were working women while 17 were housewives. This indicates that even in rural areas, women do work and aim at building a career. Since the sample was taken from Beijing, it may be concluded that similar trend with little variations may be observed in other parts of China as well. However, the age group interviews constituted of women from 25 to 50 years of age, which implies that the sample of was representative of all women of China and not just a typical age cycle. Therefore, it can be concluded here that women in China generally tend to work and build a career, mostly to acquire wealth not solely for self-fulfillment, given the observation that women belonging from rich backgrounds didn`t work as much. Factors which effect women`s choices: However, analyzing various sets of data, various other findings were also revealed. That is, out of all women interviewed, around 68% of working women were those aged between 25-30 years. This trend indicates that the younger generation with exposure to western values and a drive to achieve success is more inclined to work. Also, 32 percent of women aged 31 to 35 years were housewives. This implies that as women age, the household responsibilities increase and thus, more and more women start giving up their work and tend to become housewife. Yet, many women still prefer to work despite domestic responsibilities. Furthermore, another trend shows that 43 percent of women aged 36 to 44 years tend to work, as opposed to the 68 percent who worked in the younger generation slot. This could mean two things. Firstly, the educational status of women is being increased with time, and thus, younger women have a higher educational status which is why they tend to work more. Also, 57 percent of women aged between 45 to 50 years are housewives. This implies that these women have a different vision of the world and thus, they view themselves as more dignified while staying at home and taking after the children. Therefore, the trend is indeed changing with time as the educational status is changing for women and they also have a high exposure to outside world. Thus, more and more women from the younger generation tend to view themselves as intellectual beings who must work to make use of their abilities. Conclusion Therefore, it can be concluded from various trends that as women age, they tend to give up on their careers and look after their children at home. This can mean two things. Firstly, with more exposure to western values and higher educational status, women tend to find more jobs and thus, they work. Secondly, older women tend to have a narrow vision of the world where working is equated with unnecessary hardship and housewives are viewed as dignified women. Therefore, these traditional women tend to be housewives while younger women tend to be modern and see themselves as ones who must work to attain self-fulfillment. Another important trend observed relates to financial status, where women with a high financial status are less likely to work. Therefore, women tend to work in china not solely for self fulfillment; rather financial aspects are also crucial ones. Yet, the mindset towards working women is changing in China where more and more women are inclined towards working and are driven to build career and be successful.
