Agree Disagree Analytical Paper: I am open to having a serious romantic relationship with someone who is divorced. For most people, having a romantic relationship in life is essential and it gives them a reason to live. Some people look for serious relationships, while others just want to have some fun and experience what it is like to be in a relationship. Either way, establishing a good romantic relationship can be difficult and finding the right partner can be at times, challenging. (All About Relationships).
Therefore, if that person is available for a serious romantic relationship, one should gain the opportunity and go for it. People spend their whole lives trying to find true love, and if one finds it, it does not really matter if that person is widowed, dumped or in this case, divorced. Having a romantic relationship with a divorced person is perfectly okay, if one decides to maintain that relationship and considers it to be serious, and not just a fling. In the 21st century, having a serious relationship with a divorced person should not be considered unpleasant or invalid.
A person, who is divorced, either recently or for a long time, feels lonely or left out. It is a painful process, during which a person goes under great physical and emotional stress. It is challenging for both the parties involved and after the whole thing, both of them feel dejected, cheated and depressed. Divorce after a long marriage, is much difficult to cope with. One partner becomes accustomed to have the other one around, and the absence of that person leaves them emotionally scarred.
Even the group of friends, the couple used to hang out with becomes unavailable, and it is only natural to start looking for new friends. (Dennis Gac) After all this anxiety, it is expected for the divorced person to start looking for new people. Therefore, if one thinks that they are able to connect with the divorced person, and are mature enough to have a serious relationship, then they should be no reason why the two cannot date. Many divorced people have a hard time getting over their previous relationship, so they look forward to new relationships, which can help them get through the difficult time.
Thus, having a romantic relationship with a divorced person is totally fine, because it helps the divorced person to get over their stress and also the other person is able to find the right partner for himself, making it a win-win situation. Other than this, dating divorced people can be very beneficial for the newly-established relationship as well. For example, if a guy starts having a romantic relationship with a divorced woman, he will find that she is much easier to cope with, as she is experienced in relationships.
Firstly, divorced women would not be very pressing or demanding in the initial stages of the relationship. They will try to take things as slow as possible and give the guy a lot of space of his own. Second, they try to learn from their previous mistakes and will steer the relationship in the best possible direction; therefore, the couple will not have many obstructions during the way. Thirdly, divorced women do not try to present themselves as something they are not. They have tried that before, and realized that it does not work.
Therefore, what the guy sees in the woman is what he will get later. Therefore, if a guy likes a woman as she is when they are dating, so he would regret it when things get serious. (Why Divorced Women are Better to Date than Other Women; Carroll 2012). I have a friend whose parent’s got divorced about a year ago. She had to move in with her mother, as her father had decided to move to a different city. For the past year, she has seemed more troubled than ever. Whenever I tried to talk to her about the divorce or about how are things at home, she would just shrug and ignore the topic.
It was pretty clear that her mother was giving her a hard time at home. Her mother was not the same responsible woman she used to be before the divorce. She remained depressed the whole time, and was not spending much time with her daughter and most of the time; she was either out or sleeping. But a few weeks ago, my friend’s mother started dating a guy; she had met a grocery store. The relationship developed, and she soon moved in with him. Since then, things have become a lot better for my friend.
She does not seem under stress anymore, and is quite happy with her mom and her new dad. Therefore, dating a divorced woman ultimately made a difference in the life of a young girl, and also her mother has returned back to her normal, caring and responsible, state. Dating and having a serious relationship with a divorced person should not be a major issue. What is important is that the two people involved in the relationship care about each other and are comfortable with each other; other things do not really matter.
And if, one thinks that they can make a difference in a divorced person’s life, then they should definitely not let anything hold them back. References Horan, Sean M., and Ph.D..
