Energy Student’s Name Institutional Affiliation Date Energy In many occasions we have seen engineers come up with new methodologies of how to convert various forms of nature to usable forms of energy, for example a great discovery that was made to convert water into electricity is a good example of how engineers have been able to harness an manipulate energy which is useful to our coexistence (Hall ,2008),As demand for energy increases there has to be improvised new ways in which energy can be acquired in order to make sure that we do not fall short of this demand. Energy is a crucial part of the economy starting from the houses we live in we require energy in form of lighting and heat, running our cars, running machines in plants moving planes and running our businesses would come to a standstill if no energy is used (Boaz 2010 p.93) The process in which energy moves before it has to be utilized involves collection or extraction from the source then it is processed, stored and distributed for final utilization. Solutions which are innovative must ensure that the environmental and social part of the economy is fuelled in a responsible way. Harnessing as manipulating energy has been of great use to us in that, they are renewable sources of energy, take for example wave energy which its source sea waves, the sea waves will never run out, the waves will always be there at the sea shores unlike the fuels which are got from fossils which will run out after extraction (Gottfried Wilhelm Freiherr von Leibniz, eta, al., 2008) No input from man is required and are not limited to seasons, the other advantage is that they are environmental friendly since they do not produce harmful byproducts like gas and pollution, harnessed energy is widely available from nature for example wind energy and solar energy, others provide various ways to harness are easily predictable and reduce dependency to foreign oils and lastly, they cause no damage to land which proves their environmental friendliness. Food production, fuel transport and powering of communication channels all over the word are vital roles achieved through energy. Improvements in living standards have been achieved as many people has gained access to energy, though we have seen pressure building up on world resources serious climate changes still is a major concern (Belinda 2006 P 99) Energy is useful in building structures that are of great help to us, in the power production plant we find that water is the raw material in production of electricity power this power that is produced from water is then used in many protective ways such as lighting which will help in providing security to us, running of computers and CCTV cameras also is reliance of this electricity power, traffic lights are connected to the power system so as to provide clear vision of drivers at night. Energy is described in physics as universal neither created nor destroyed and can be redistributed, many forms of energy are kinetic energy, potential energy, radiant energy, chemical energy among others. Energy is important in different ways for instance; various economic sectors such as transport, industrial commercial and residential will use energy for lighting and heating, moving of cars and freight will also require energy, industries involved in manufacturing of various products will also require energy to deal with their day to day operation, energy consumption is increasing on daily basis due to increased demand in the energy sector (Webster 2001.p.252). According to Gottfried Leibniz a German philosopher and a mathematician who played a great role in the invention of mechanical calculators, living force if harnessed it could give the world unimaginable power meant God created humans with power which could be converted to many things and that his creation was the best that he could have created, Leibniz came up with calculus, came up with the law of continuity and homogeneity law which is found in mathematics, he was working on multiplication addition and division on Pascal’s calculator and described the pin wheel calculator, the arithmometer uses Leibniz wheel which he also invented, digital computers today uses the binary number system which was also his major invention. Leibniz among others were advocates of rationalism, made major contributions to technology and physics he also did philosophy and did his works in various languages such as German, French and Latin (Gottfried Wilhelm Freiherr von Leibniz, eta, al., 2008). Carnot the father of thermodynamics who was French engineer in the military and who was also a phycist gave the heat engines a successful theory for their maximum efficiency, Carnot achieved great importance both in the industrial and the economic sectors when he begun working on his book entitled steam engines, he was to get the answer about how the steam engines operated and in finding out whether steam engines could use any other form of energy like fluids or gas to improve their performance. He tried to answer this in his book reflections in the motive power of fire, wide range of topics are covered in this book about the steam engines in a fashion that was rather popular, minimum equations were included for steam and Air as the fluids working. Various steam designs are discussed together with their merits and even how improvements of practical nature were possible (Webster 2001 P 252). Principles which are fundamental that all heat engines can generally apply regardless of their design is what the book was devoted to present in detail, the heat engine Carnot improvised had to achieve maximum efficiency so he had to ensure no heat conduction among different parts of the engine because the process would be irreversible and wasteful so his engine proved to be the most efficient since no friction was observed among his engines (Carnot 1890, p. 68). Carnot had to improvise and idealize hi model where the caloric moved to a cold body from a hot body producing work, and the process of this motion could be reversed in the cycle. Thermodynamic reversibility is achieved through this reversal process, he further proved that no loss of caloric is noted, and the reversibility of the process is completely achieved, a real heat machine that proves to be the most efficient must have the property of using cycle’s reversibility, the proof is observed when two large surfaces or bodies one which is hot and the other one which is cold and we combine the Carnot machine and makes the heat to move to the cold body producing work. This proves the efficiency of the Carnot’s engine (Carnot1977 P 53), He published his books when steam engines were of great use, he explained using his theory why steam engines were better while using steam which was superheated because of the high temperatures of the hot reservoir. His efforts and theories immediately did not help to add value and improve the steam engines efficiency and aimed at pointing out on the superiority of an existing practice, he noted that the efficiency of the steam engine can be increased once its temperatures are increased of the hot reservoir, Carnot’s work paved way for the design of a more efficient diesel engine by Rudolf diesel who used Carnot’s theories by creating a reservoir that had more heat than that of a steam engine. Conclusion Clear demonstration has been made that the universe would end as a black hole and will explode to another big bang and release a big mass once again and this tend to make us believe that the universe will appear and disappear periodically, such misconception should be eliminated as the universe is never ending, entropy has the meaning of material universe which losses part of its mass in form of energy which again it can be retrieved. The mortality of everything from homes to the humans to the universe itself is seen where scientists believe matter to be eternal which beans it has got no beginning or an end. The activity of change and degradation is unavoidable in that no human efforts can be able to deal with wastefulness and eternity cannot go hand in hand with wastefulness and everything wasteful will once end.
