Extract of sample "The Rare Earth Theory Suggestion"

It remains unclear what chain of circumstances led to the emergence of life on Earth. However, scientists believe that the long period of relatively stable climate originating from the stable orbit of the planet at a favorable distance from a proper type of star is necessary to factor in complex life on Earth (Guangxian and Xiao 33-34).
The Rare Earth Theory holds that few planets can support the kind of complex life that the Earth supports. It contradicts the mediocrity principle which assumes Earth is a typical planet and that there is not much that is special about humanity. Another analysis suggests that the only planet that is capable of supporting complex life is the Earth. Proponents of the Rare Earth Theory indicate the long list of circumstances required for the evolution of complex life on earth. The creation of life requires water, and no planet apart from the Earth is known to have liquid water in large quantities. Many other planets do not have the right temperature to keep water liquid. Therefore, complex life cannot be found on such planets (Guangxian and Xiao 36).

Considering that the galaxy is a very thin circular disk of stars of a radius of approximately 50,000 light-years with 2500 civilizations in our galaxy capable of communication, the approximate separation of these civilizations in light years will be the perimeter divided by the number of civilizations.
