ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES AND ITS CONNECTION TO NEW BUILDING CULTURES AT PRESENT Introduction The world today faces a bunch of issues of economic situations that are bringing about the great changes in the society and the ways by which it actually faces new age progression towards the new era of modernization. These changes though are causing dreadful effects to the environment. The truth is, the more industrialized areas in the world there are, the lesser capable of supporting human life the earth becomes. This in turn causes the earth fever or most likely known as global warming. Presently, major climate changes are occurring in a global measure thus affecting many ecological and environmental conditions in the planet. All of the evidently noticeably climate shifts phenomenon in the planet can be scientifically traced as effects of the rising global temperature brought by major changes in the Earth’s atmosphere. Ozone depletion caused by ascending pollution rate brought by industrial revolution of the humanity is determined to be the most influential factor for this phenomenon. Climate change resulting from a warmer Earth has been determined to posts many environmental effects. Among of these is the rise in the global water level caused by the melting Polar Regions because of the hotter atmospheric conditions. This condition can adversely affect the water current resulting to the disruption of the balance of fresh water and salt water and the distribution of the oceanic temperature. In addition, atmospheric and meteorological activities namely typhoons, hurricanes, and tornadoes are also affected including the seasonal changes such as winter, monsoons, snow and summer. The rise in the Earth’s temperature and ozone depletion can also affect ecological and environmental aspects. Ultraviolet radiation can damage human health through skin disorders and diseases, optical damage and others. Crop yields and forest productivity will be significantly decrease since hotter atmosphere will dry up farms land becoming hostile to vegetation, alter irrigation systems, and will ignite forest fires. The normal balance of oceanic ecology will also be damage because ozone depletion will result to increase in water’s temperature. This condition will lead to increase plankton production and will disrupt the water’s life-support system. Fisheries and other marine life will die due to suffocation, hot temperature, and lack of food resources. Indeed, changes in Earth’ atmospheric condition and global temperature brought about by ozone depletion have many adverse effects on the capability of the planet to support life and their survival. Considerably, this truth then awakens the senses of the advocates of industrialization which includes the enthusiasts of modern establishments. Apparently, with the aim of continuously progressing towards modernization without actually contributing to the degrading situation of the earth at present, architects and modern builders have created possible ways to give way to modern eco architecture which welcomes innovative designs of building that are aimed in making a huge consideration on how the established buildings actually affect the environment of the society where the said built structures are situated. For this reason, the researcher of this paper considered the Rolle Estate Office in Devon for study and examination in an aim of pinpointing the possible options that are available for modern establishers of building to adapt into so as to create more environmental friendly buildings that are not only ready to provide the users of the building what they need but are also capable of preserving the environment surrounding the said establishments. Motivation for Carrying the Study The need to return back to the green culture is one of the most essential steps that builders should consider today. Utilizing materials for building that are noted to enhance the capability of the environment to sustain the living organisms that exist within it. It is undeniable that the progression of several areas in the world towards being industrialized has caused a huge problem to the level of the world’s capability to handle the pressure of the growing population of the living organisms that exist within its territories. Cutting the trees and overly using raw materials to establish sky rocketing buildings have naturally brought about problems of scarcity towards the resources where the building materials have been taken from, likely, this matter also results to the degrading effects that the habitats of endangered species receive from the said area transformation procedures. As a confiding procedure taken into consideration by builders and contractors today, the pursuance of green architecture comes into serious contact with the studies that aim to produce considerable results that would give out suggestive procedures by which every builder could base their innovative approaches to building establishments. Modernization is a term directly connected to the idea of development, both based on industrialization and advancement in terms of the way by which the society views life and living. With the different demands needed to be given attention today, there is so much of a pressure on the part of the builders to find the best ways possible to establish structures that are best enough to keep the environmental balance within the areas where the structures are to be built. Through this, the builders come to have two different aims, one is towards the pursuance of industrialization while the other is towards the implicative application of earth friendly procedures that are aimed at keeping the environment largely capable of supporting the lives of the organisms thriving upon it. One of the most reliable basis of the said development and innovative approach to building structures is that of the creation of the Rolle Estate Office in Devon. This primarily gives a definite proof that if wanted and if really pursued, the existence of green-based eco architecture could be applied even within local structures that are created for business purposes. The researcher has primarily chosen the Rolle Estate Office as an example to the matter since the builders of the said establishment obviously realized their role in pinning the establishment with the major reasons aimed towards protecting the environment around the building. This particular approach to handling the building procedures of establishing a structure has naturally captured the attention of the researcher of this study. Apparently, its specified focus on preserving the environment within the building while providing the values of the users of the building has been created in a much balanced view that made it easier for the researcher to find this building a rather attention getter when it comes to proving that eco-architecture is one process that is possible and feasible enough to be applied. Background of the Building The Rolle Estate Office is owned by the Clinton Devon Real Estate business which operates right within the park is observed as one of the most innovative buildings in the area. It could be observed that the business directly aims to offer a huge option to residents to spend their lives in a dream house that is one with nature, they are practically concentrated on helping the people see their dreams right through the office established by the said business organization. To be able to enhance the capability of the business establishment to hold a considerable number of clients at a time the building is situated right at the scenic view of the park. The location of course is important hence it is considered effective enough on the part of the Rolle Estate Office as it practically used the space it was given through copying trough the landscape of the land thus making an illusion that the building itself is part of the scenic view and not something that has simply been placed there for business purposes. It went along with the landscape of the land hence making it look more of a part of the entire land giving it a homey look. The light source of the building also comes from nature itself. It is true that through making use of the sunlight, the building does not only become energy efficient, it also becomes more apprehensive in showing the viewers of the area that the establishment is practically a part of the whole park. Through the use of huge glasses around, the building becomes more lighted during the day up until the mid afternoon and the offices in it could opt to only use lighting during the late afternoon towards the night. It has obviously all the lighting source it needs and the important source of air ventilation that the building itself requires although it does have minimal machine based ventilation for emergency occurrences that does not go well with the weather. It has also been noted to have used recycled materials for its ceiling an flooring tiles hence reducing the amount of the building’s establishment and increasing the level of its economic and environmental value as well. Believably, it is through these particular features that the building garnered numerous recognitions from well known award giving bodies that are practically aiming to inspire modern builders to have the most innovative ideas possible for application in finding the right and efficient way of establishing business buildings that are both functional and earth friendly. What the Building Proves about the Balance between Industrialization and Earth Protection With the establishment of buildings such as that of the Rolle Estate Office, it could be noticed that the proof on possibly having buildings that are practically functional and earth friendly has been shown. Obviously, the aim of the business owners to present a more earth-based presentation of their building created the innovative design of their establishment which practically increases the capability of the building to be one with nature. Besides the idea of economizing through utilizing the best resources readily provided by the surroundings in the area where the building has been situated, the builders of the office naturally created a fine nest for the business to stay in and welcome clients and give them the idea on what the Real Estate Company naturally wants to offer its prospected customers. Through the building’s effective location, the builders were rather able to find the most effective procedures possible to make it more welcoming and more accommodating to the clients through letting them feel nature itself during their stay in the area. The balance of providing a fine environment for the business owners and their establishments works both ways in protecting the values of the businessmen and the people around them. Besides the fact that the said option of building the structure greatly poses a huge chance of balancing the options of earth protection so as to enhance the capability of the building to provide function and to set an example of being an establishment that provides great protection to the natural environment that surrounds it. Conclusion Many establishments today are now being offered to take the option of creating structures that are earth friendly and are practically economical. The option taken by many business owners who would like to have their buildings created based on the different naturally based materials that are designed to increase the functionality of their structures and the efficiency of the said establishments are the ones who receive the best benefits from all the investments that they place in creating such buildings. With the example posed by the Rolle Estate Office in Devon as particularly discussed in this paper, it could be noted that the balance of creating a more environmental friendly buildings that are designed to function at its best for its users and still contribute to the earth saving programs that are being pursued in the world of architecture and building engineering at present. True, with the proof that the Rolle Estate Office provides, it has been established that the possibility of creating the best and most efficient buildings that could support the programs of saving the earth is so much possible and could be true through the cooperation of the owners and the creators of the building to make functional structures that are highly constructed to support the earth’s need to be protected. Today, more than ever, there is a serious need to focus on protecting the earth and the resources found in it. It could not be denied that the realities of having establishments that are earth friendly is now coming into the right picture through particular buildings such as that of the Rolle Estate Office. With the enthusiasm of the builders to find the right ways to establish such buildings that are energy efficient, naturally sustainable and economically functional, the realization of the different values posted by the idealisms that create the foundation of eco architecture could now be true. The world’s support to the creation of functional buildings such as that of the Rolle Estate Office could actually save the earth for a better future. True, the pursuance of the application of eco architecture in the process of modern building creates a fine introduction to the adjustments that architecture is taking into account today. Considerably, these truths make it possible for the birth of the innovative designs that bring about the best ideas out of the thoughts of outstanding structure builders who are now standing as noble advocates of modern practical presentations of the collaboration of building procedures and the modern approaches to saving the environment from total devastation that has been believed before as the major contribution of industrialization to the earth’s resources at present. Through eco architecture as applied within the creation of the new establishments today, the continuous fight for the preservation of the resources found in the environment at present could certainly be won.
