The George Washing Business School Supplemental Essay. I have a strong conviction that our accomplishment in life is not determined by just academic and material success but also our impact on society. It is for this reason that I have always desired and strived to attain enough knowledge and transformation that places in the position to positively influence on society’s wellbeing. I believe in a quality education which emphasizes on the total transformation and all-round development of the student so as to graduate responsible citizens. A challenging environment stimulates my exploration of ideas and critical thought and hence would like to learn in a diverse environment that is the George Washington University. The university’s commitment of creating, disseminating and applying knowledge to the betterment of humanity particularly drives my desire to be part of its community. My short-term professional goal is to obtain a CPA certification and license with which I should be able to enhance my word and corporate experience. Through building on my short-term goals I should be able to gather invaluable experience and knowledge towards my long-term goal of becoming a professional auditor. As a stronger believe in the quality of knowledge in transforming life, I as a professional accountant I will be able to work in the corporate world and contribute solidly to the society’s wellbeing which will answer my desire of positively influencing lives of many people. It is on this backdrop that I am applying to the George Washington University’s Master of Accountancy Program. A masters degree in accountancy, I believe will contribute tremendously not only to my professional development but also to the realization of my short and long-term goals. I want to gain my graduate degree at the George Washington University Business School being a disciple of learning in a dynamic, challenging and open environment. The University’s value of creating a student focused community, appreciation of diversity both culturally and intellectually and fostering creativity in an open learning environment particularly interests me. I have previously studied at the University of Delaware, Newark, De from where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and attained a cumulative GPA of 3.27. During the undergraduate I studied courses such as investment, finance, accounting, operations management, micro & macro economics and business communications which I believe have prepared me for more challenges in the field. The knowledge gained during the bachelor’s degree opened my thinking and view of economic systems creating a lot of desire for further studies in the field. It is during this time that I came to understand and appreciate the role of the accounting profession in the corporate and national development. As a professional accountant I will be able to apply my knowledge in transforming our society for the better through contributions towards policy and economic development. This appreciation of accounting knowledge as well as the role of finance greatly inspires my desire to acquire postgraduate qualification in the field. In terms of work experience I have previously worked as a bank teller at the Bank of China’s Dongying branch. My roles included account opening, performing cash transactions, collection of payments and issuance of checks and money orders. I also worked as an accounting assistant at Haiwei Hygine New Material Co. limited where was I was charged with preparation of financial statements, compiling and maintaining financial records, processing payments and preparation of statutory accounts as well as filing VAT returns. In the months of July and August, 2014 I worked as an Assistant Account Manager with Citibank Beijing. I assisted in managing customer relations, advising customers on their financial product needs, documentation and management of customer information at the branch level. I have also worked as a tutor at the University of Delaware Academic Enrich Center, Newark DE during the fall of 2014. Throughout this time the working experiencing have been very enriching, educating and interesting at the same time. I have valuable work experience which includes handling customers, financial management, workplace relations and more importantly the experience at work especially the banks made me gain a deeper understanding of the role finance and accounting plays in society. I was able to interact with work procedures and also customers hence understanding the problems facing many people as well as our institutions which I hope will be able to solve as professional accountant. Apart from academics I am also a very outgoing with interests in clubs, games, computing, volunteering and music. I was an active member of the Chinese Students and Scholars Association at the University and also volunteered in orphanages with colleagues at the Haiwei Hygiene New Material Co. Ltd. I believe through clubs and such activities as volunteering I get a unique opportunity to interact with fellow students, professors and the community with meaningful exchange of knowledge otherwise not possible in class. I also have personal interests in computers with extensive of Mat Lab and Mac Os out of personal initiative. Another area of interest is games and sports; I actively take part in track and field events and also go to the gym regularly. This is because I believe through leading an active life I am able to get exercise that which helps in maintaining a healthy body both physically, mentally and psychologically. By having mind that stable and body that is healthy as a student is very important to the process of learning and hence would do all it takes to be fit. In conclusion therefore, I am applying for the Master of Accountancy Program at the George Washington University Business School so as to further increase my knowledge of accounting. The knowledge that I will gain through the program will go a long way in helping me as I work towards the realization of both my short and long-term academic and professional objectives. I believe in independence, creativity, challenges and the strength of diversity and as such would always want to learn in an educational environment rich in cultural and intellectual diversity so as to stimulate my critical thought. This I believe will get the George Washington University because of its values of openness, diversity and integrity. My personal philosophy is a to be a student forever and would utilizing every facility available at the campus to enrich the graduate experience achieve holistic growth. Read More
