Extract of sample "The Education Required to Get the Job"

I have interviewed for the position of finance officer who works as part of a travel agency, managing the finances along with some of the operations. His name is Mr. Steve Higgs and he manages travel agencies as part of the tourism program of Queensland.

The education required to get the job includes studying finance; if one has done their M.B.A in finance, it makes it even easier for them to be eligible for the job because of the accounting skills that are required to maintain modern books of accounts and manage the money coming in from customers purchasing the travel package deals. One, however, need not study travel and tourism extensively. Mr Higgs mentioned that experience is required greatly and to be eligible for the post one must have worked as a managing and finance officer in a firm and also must have internship experience in the same field to understand the intricacies of the job better. Managing money might seem to be an easy job but is very difficult because one has to maintain various records to be sent to different travel agencies as well as the government. Moreover, proper rates need to be taken from hotels and leisure activity organizers from various parts of the country to provide a proper deal to the customers.

The main thing to be kept in mind is the management of profits and losses; one has to be well-versed in studying operational finance management because it involves knowledge regarding how to make profits for the organization and save it from incurring heavy losses. Proper accounts have to be made to ascertain the profits and losses in the long term to determine the ups and downs that the company may go through. Moreover, he also has to ascertain the assets and liabilities of the organization based on which he helps the entire firm decide the money that it can shell out for its various activities. The daily obligations thus include day-to-day management and looking into the books of accounts and maintaining a hold on the finances being taken out and brought back to the company. In a week, almost 6 hours a day are required because of the constant money that keeps going in and out of the company.

The additional bonuses include the travel perks that Mr. Higgs so proudly talks about, which I mentioned at the beginning of the essay. According to him, the company sends him for tours once in a while constantly and he gets to stay in the best hotels and try all the activities that customers would have as part of their package deals. The only drawback would be that if one is not interested in number crunching and maintaining finances the job can be quite monotonous because of the constant watch one has to keep on the finances. The job does not include any other obligations as such and thus managing finances can be quite redundant if there is no change once in a while.
Moreover, as part of the tourism of the country, Mr. Higgs is also exposed to traveling along with other members of his company and thus this aspect of his work seemed very appealing to me. Tourism and the government send him to various countries even though he only manages the money aspect. This interview has helped me gain a lot of interest in the subject of finance and has helped me understand that managing finances in a company need not be a boring job as others presume it to be. I would personally like to be a part of such a job and have the opportunity to travel to different places because it would give me the chance to explore and discover while continuing with my dream of working in finance.
