Family Autobiography Introduction Family is recognized as a group affiliated by affinity and consanguinity members. The members have common shared values. Family is termed as group of individuals who share a common lifestyle as well as characteristics. The term family provides a name and recognition to the individuals in terms of value, identity and recognition. Furthermore, a family provides a common space for the people to share their emotions and values. The initial upbringing and shaping of characters has a huge influence of the family to which an individual belongs. A family provides huge support for the development of individuals and enhances their ability to develop their cognitive skills. Family and consumer sciences are a set of aspects that combines social and natural sciences for better understanding of the relationship that an individual shares in a society (Enrique, Howk and Huitt 1-18). The essay elaborates on my family background and ideologies, which have an influence on my development. In addition, the section of economics and social class along with their impact on my development has been explained. Moreover, special emphasis has been provided on the different positive and negative impacts of parental care. FAMILY BACKGROUND A. I belong to a Persian family and am the youngest son of my parents. I am younger of the two sons of my parents. I am brought up under strict guidelines that are followed within an Islamic religion. I am 21 years old and am close to my parents. I belong to an upper middle class family and reside with my parents and my elder brother. On a scale of 0 to 10, I would rate myself 8 points in terms of happiness. The family I belong to is supportive and provides me with immense mental strengths to carry out my tasks. Furthermore, I have certain duties to carry out in my family by taking care of my parents as my elder brother is working outside and most of the time stays out. Owing to the fact that my brother stays out, I have to perform the major duties of my family and take care of my parents. Besides family responsibilities, I have been also efficiently performing the responsibilities that are to be undertaken in a society. These responsibilities include different relationship and bonding that I have with my peers, teachers and other people I am associated with in the society. B. I am the youngest member of my family. I have an elder brother named Arash, who is 24 years old and is working in the UAE. Initially, I used to feel that being younger provides me with a lot of preferences and gives me all the freedom. Being the youngest member, I was highly pampered by my parents and elder brother. Moreover, he even used to cover up all my mischiefs and I used to be often left untouched, as he was the savior. During the young age, I even had a preference over best dress, chocolates and all things. I was even extremely loved by all and everyone. However, I was even scolded by my parents for all my mischiefs, but those used to be very menial in comparison to the ones for my brother. This added advantage that I used to receive was often enjoyed by me. Conversely, in the present situation, the different extra responsibilities of the family that I am taking care actually making me feel very distressed and disturbed. Even today, I feel happy to be the youngest member of the family who is loved and pampered as ever. Thus, the love and care that I have received from my parents and siblings will always be cherished. C. Since, I am the youngest of the siblings, I have been provided with special treatments from my parents and elder brother. I have been always closer to my mother than to my father. My father being a very reserved person and is often short tempered owing to which I am afraid of my father. This attitude of my father has often made me communicate less with him than that of my mother. On the other hand, my mother loved and acted as a huge support for my personal development. D. The tenderness of my mother and her enormous care as well as dedication towards my development in my initial years has further catalyst my cognitive growth. Correspondingly, I am always attached to my brother, as he has often been a fatherly figure to me. He has always guided me with all the needs during my childhood and still the present scenario. He has even supported me in developing my career graph and has always provided me with a huge support to catalyst my development. E. I can relate my character majorly with my father, as I am also severely short-tempered and haughty. I have often created huge issues owing to my lack in control of my temper. Furthermore, I even have certain positive traits that include tenderness and cares that have acquired from my mother. I also possess the trait of helping others at the time of needs. F. Besides my parents in the initial days of my childhood, my grandparents used to stay with us. Though I have a very keen remembrance of my grandparents as they passed off when I was very young. However, this has also had an impact on my initial development. As far as I remember, my grandparents were strict in their culture and were less flexible to incorporate any changes in the family. This conservative nature of their attitude has often affected the growth of our family and has in turn influenced our development too. G. There has been a mixed impact on the choices that I have made in my life. This has even affected my life, both negatively and positively. However, my parents have always supported my decisions and have never decided to interfere with my life. The decision to join college and pursue my career as in psychology has been my wisest decision. With the progression of my course, I have been able to relate myself to the needs and requirements of the people and have been able to develop my cognitive skills too. Contrary to the above, I have faced huge set back and my decision of not continuing my career in the field of arts and painting has been a huge negativity in my career growth. H. Since I have begun college, I have planned to visit a number of psychologists to learn their process of developing people. This is the best decision that I have taken since joining my college. This has helped me to develop my practical knowledge and enhanced my approach towards the system. The parallel development of both practical and theoretical knowledge has enhanced my competency over my peers. The worst choice I have made since I joined college was regarding choice of my initial group of friends. The selection was majorly based on their friendly nature, however, in the due course of time, I realized that the group was majorly inclined in creating nuisance. This initial selection has left a mark on my life for which I have always regretted in my life. ECONOMICS AND SOCIAL CLASS A. I belong to an upper middle class family. My father is a businessman and my mother is a professor. Both my parents have completed their masters and has been earning handsomely. Even though I have been brought up in a well to do family, my parents have never brought up any of us lavishly. Since, I have been provided with the basics of my life and have never been allowed to lead my life in a lavish manner, owing to which I have learned to live within limits. My parents have even trained us to be self-sufficient both economically and mentally. From a very young age, I have been planning my ways to earn money to support myself. B. The career choice of my parents has influenced me greatly for pursuing my academic career with better growth prospective. The selection of the subjects has been influenced by my mother’s selection of subjects. My mother has been teaching psychology and this has efficiently influenced my selection for the subject. However, the busy schedule that my father has due to his business had left a mark on me. I have often felt neglected, due to his long working hours and busy schedules. PARENTAL PLUSSES AND MINUSES A. The most important decision that my parents have taken was to develop my career in art. I loved to continue with paintings and drawings even in the later stages of my life. This decision has helped me to develop my cognitive skills and even enhanced my ability to perform. B. My brother has always been a lover of sports and I loved art since childhood. I never felt the urge to go out and play or try dangerous sports. My father had an interest in swimming and decided that I should be joining my brother to practice the same. In the first instance, I went into the water I became phobic and my brother started playing pranks. This instance has left a mark on me, as I never get down in the water ever since that day. The thought of being engulfed by water has even been haunting me from childhood. Based on the autobiography, it has identified that in my life, I have been influenced by different factors that include family background, economic and social class, and parental plusses and misuses. From my childhood still the present days, I have been affected by different individuals that include my parents, brother and peer groups to a large extent. CONCLUSION A family is the first stepping-stone that helps an individual to take further steps in life. Families have been playing major roles in developing the cognitive behavior of individuals. The different social sciences are based on the lifestyle of the people and the way they have been spending their life within their culture and family. The societal development is at large observed to be having a huge impact on the cognitive development of the individuals. The characteristics development and the improvement that has been observed at the different level of the society are influencing the studies related to the social developments. Self-discipline and development of individuals are mostly influenced by family set up that the individual has been brought up. Furthermore, it has also been observed that the children who are brought up in a stable family setting have showed better cognitive development.
