Here Here Here Here Bipolar Disorder and the Movie "Up/Down Prior to watching this movie, I was under the impression that I had a decent comprehension of bipolar disorder. Now I believe that I did not, and Im sure many viewers have experienced similar realizations. I knew that periods of depression and mania were extremely harmful to psychological health, but I didnt realize how intensely relationships were affected by the mood variations. It is now clear that the social harm that can come from bipolar disorder might be just as bad as experiencing the psychological effects, which are devastating alone.2. I enjoyed the mention of historic figures suspected of having bipolar disorder, but the most impactful part was the testimony of family members.

The stories were hard to hear, eliciting emotions that help to convey the instability that the disorder has caused in their lives, even though they are not the diagnosed people. The interviews with bipolar sufferers were also very informative, especially about the severity of the moods they have and the chaos that it causes in their lives. I learned that they live with the constant fear of drifting into either depression or mania and have to be on guard at all times, which must be a completely draining process.3. I would have to be extremely aware of any stigma in my thought processes that may exist about bipolar disorder.

I hadnt realized how easy it can be to pass these judgements without realizing that you are doing so. Accordingly, I would need to consistently filter my perceptions for potentially biased information based on social stigmas about bipolar disorder.Work CitedGehring, Kyle.
