While it could have been said he cast too big a shadow for me something that is said to impact negatively on second and third-born children, I did not mind, as he was my role model in all fields. I idolized him so much, everything he did no matter how minor it appeared important to me. Since he was an avid reader, I would go to his room and sometimes find him busily reading a novel. He would pull out a book for me, I would sit on the floor, and we would quietly study for hours and on. This way, I developed a reading culture that has been very beneficial in my academics, that has brought me much success in my life and profession. As I grew up, I came to depend on him for advice on many issues, and he has never disappointed and always gave me sound and objective advice while not trying to decide for me but helping me decide by showing me the right way. Their home had become a battleground; the air was filled with smoke and dust. Dead bodies were strewn all over since there was no possible way of disposing them as their numbers grew significantly by the second. The villagers were filled with fear and uncertainty. An important family story or story some one told you

...The Haunted House Fear is a powerful force, what we tell ourselves often becomes reality. As a child our family lived in anormal, middle class suburb, had painfully normal parents who lived a stereotypical life. Dad worked from nine to five, mom worked part time at the fabric store during the hours us kids were in school. In this boring but stable environment were “the woods,” a place where nobody was allowed to go. Maybe it was because it was just out of shouting distance or was just dense, dark and spooky enough our parents were a little afraid of it too. Nobody disobeyed this rule not even the neighborhood tough guy. He picked on everyone but he wasn’t so tough the woods didn’t scare him, at least a little. The woods were where...

... Family Story My family is Dominican. We are wealthy and prosperous because of our hardworking nature. About twenty years ago, my family migrated from the Dominican Republic to the United States. My parents worked extremely hard to ensure that our family remained united. Upon our arrival in America, my father first worked at a supermarket in Queens as a floor sweeper. He was a young man in his early twenties. He was expected to provide for his young family. My...

Telling a Strange Story & Family Values

Kafka’s Absurd Metamorphosis Q1. From the very beginning Kafka introduce readers to extraordinary news: for some reason a travelling salesman Gregor Samsa overnight has turned into a disgusting bug with monstrous features and many sticky limbs. Feeling of frustration comes already when reading this news. Abomination appears later when reading descriptions of Samsa’s new look. Thus, most extraordinary is to found a casual tone Kafka uses for narrative.
Casualty comes from common descriptions Kafka makes and mostly, from casualty of Samsa’s thoughts. After introducing readers to the news, author introduces Gregor’s room, “a picture of a woman”, the weather etc. as if there’s a common human in the room (Kafka). Very routine are Sa...

The dramatization of family dissolution in Tokyo story

...The dramatization of family dissolution in Tokyo story Date, Time Institution: The dramatization of family dissolution in Tokyo story The Tokyo story is one of the most melodramatic films ever made. According to some authors, the plot is a simple tale of an aging parenthood and an emerging generation gap that affected the Japanese families at the time. The director mounts this generation gap in the concept of modernization that is depicted by the difference between rural and city life (MaGee, 2011). With this simple plot, the director engages the audience in a high level of dramatization that deeply engages the minds of the audience into realizing the various issues about...
