Alfred Lubrano in his essay “The Shock of Education: How College Education Corrupts” provides an overview about the effects of education on the lives of the children who get involved in it. In particular he emphasizes on the effects of education on child-parent relationship once the child gets enrolled in a specific course. In his view learning takes a child further from parents because of the processes that are involved in the setting. The pressure and problems associated with education become a reason for the disparities between the child and parent.

However the claim in Lubrano’s essay does not take all the aspects of education together when putting in the views. It can be said that Lubrano is right to a certain extent but his theory does not apply in all cases. This essay would further revolve around the aspects of education and the points put forward by Lubrano. It would further analyze as to if his viewpoint is distorted or is right. Transition to College When a child is studying in high school and gets enrolled in the college in the next year he has to face certain difficulties because of which he cannot act in the same manner with his parents like he used to.

Lubrano in his essay cites a straddle as saying that “The best predictor of whether you’re going to have problems with your family is the distance between your education and your parents.” (Lubrano). . if they are miles away from their college and they should call upon them frequently so that they do not get messed up with the environment that they are given in the college. It can be thus said that the relationships can only be affected between a child and parent if the proper circumstances are allowed to dwell.

Lubrano on the other hand does not mention these circumstances which can lead to the problems in relationships (Faidley 2007). Problems faced by parents When a child leaves for college his parents have to suffer from many problems because of the pure relationship that they possess. The parents often feel void because they don’t see their child around and cannot keep a surveillance on the activities of their child. The parents feel left out as the children do not interact with them just like they used to when they were in high school.

Lubrano puts an irrational view of the problems that are faced by the parents and children. He gives an example of himself where he was selected in an elite college. It was from here that the relationship between him and his parents began to deteriorate. But the problems with parents and him are not emphasized in the essay. It is seen that his parents did not struggle to maintain the relationship between them. It can be said that it is the duty of both the parents and children to make sure that their relationship is not being affected in anyway.

Parents should guide their children on such occasion where their children are stressed out about certain things. Discussion by parents is necessary for them to revive the conversations between the parents and the children. The needs of the children should also be met by the parents so that they children do not feel agitated or left out after leaving their homes. The children should be
