Student’s Name Professor’s Name Course Date РОRTFОLIО FОR ЕNVIRОNMЕNTАLLY SUSTАINАBLЕ DЕSIGN Introduction The environment is a very important asset to human beings. When it comes to its conservation, it is the responsibility of each and every person to ensure that it is well conserved. We have seen various forms of pollution that have led to the degradation of the environment hence making it difficult for the living of the human beings in the environment. To ensure environment sustainability, it is prudent to understand all forms of pollution and they can be contained to avoid negative impact on the environment. Energy efficiency design Sources of energy in the world are the major sources of pollution to the environment. They can lead to air pollution, water pollution, and land pollution. There are many sources of energy ranging from the; hydroelectric source of energy, fossil fuels, wind energy and the nuclear source of energy. All the sources of energy have their disadvantage which can either be contained or others are beyond the control. When we look at the hydroelectric power, it is said to be the cleanest source of energy however it comes up with a very initial cost for its setup. On the other hand, we have the crude oil and coal which are fossil fuels, however, this source of energy is said to be so dirty and pollutes the environment a lot that they require a lot of control when it comes to using it as a source of energy. Also, we have wind energy which is one of the best of electric power since it is very clean and its cost is not much compared to the one from the hydroelectric power. Finally, nuclear energy is one of the clean energy that can be used; however, its production involves a lot of risks that is associated with a lot of problems like dangerous radiations (John, 12). Climate change and Global warming Global climate change is now widely recognized as one of the major impacts that have been brought by the effects of environmental pollution specifically emissions of carbon which has resulted in global warming. The greatest challenge to environmentalists in the 21st century is dealing with the effects of global warming and climate change. The emissions of carbon dioxide from the used fossil fuels and other gasses to the atmosphere has caused the earth to be warmer than the normal expected levels. With the rise of global warming, the issue of climate change is now inevitable. Extreme weather is being seen in many parts of the world. The change of climate has come withs its challenges ranging from diseases, disruption of the transport system, the rise of the sea level which results to floods and also, extreme drought spells (Haines, 17). Sustainability and Environmental Sustainability To cap the impact of the above effects of the different sources of energies so as to ensure that no further degradation and pollution of the environment, then we have to come up ways to counter the measure and also use alternative sources of energies that are said to be clean with less effect on the environment. The use of hydroelectric power can be one of the best sources as it does not release any carbon to the environment. Compared to another source of energy, hydroelectric power is said to be less risk though its initial cost of setting up is said to be higher. Wind energy also can be a very good source of energy as it is said to be the cleanest source of energy. Compared to the hydroelectric power then it is said to be a bit cheaper. Then to ensure that the harm on the environment is reduced, then the countries in East China should seek the usage of the other two sources of energy (John 04). To ensure that factories and other institutions are abiding by the calling of using the sources of energy that are clean then the governments in this region should come up with laws that are going to make the companies opting for this type of energies. Laws like paying heavy taxes for the carbon that is being released to the environment is going to make the cost of production is going to be higher something that will force them to stop using them. Also, the government can provide incentives to those investors who are ready to invest in the factories that will produce the clean sources of energy. When it comes to the issue of the control of the nuclear energy usage, laws should be legislated on the procedures that are to be followed so as to ensure safe production is being practiced. Also, those nations that are producing nuclear energy should be forced to pay for any destruction that may occur in case any of their factories leads to such an error (John 02). Pollution of the environment has been on the rise in the whole world in the recent past. This has been influenced due to the increase of industrialization. We have three major forms of pollution that are commonly seen in the environment; water, air, and land pollution. When we talk about water pollution, we are mainly focusing on the issue of making water in our natural sources not being fit for the consumption of human beings. There are activities apart from industrialization's being carried out by human beings that at the end have a great impact on the waters that we use. The use of pesticide and fertilizers that are inorganic during the planting of crops may result to being washed to the water sources, which contaminates it. On the other effluents from industries and factories may get into the water sources and contaminate it at the end. The effects being felt has necessitated action to ensure that the trend is contained. With the fact that in the world the problem of environment conservation is the problem is, caution should be emphasized ensure that the few resources are conserved to ensure that the future generations do not suffer as such. Methods of conserving runoff water during the times of storm should be practiced to ensure that the storage is plenty that will allow the natural water in river Jordan is conserved for the future generations. This is going to reduce the pressure that is seen on the natural water resources and ensure that people are taking clean water. However, when it come to the pollution of this scarce resource in the middle east, various ways have been seen to be done that end up making the water contaminated hence not fit for consumption. The release of chemicals into the water resources is one factor the leads to the pollution of water resources. This can be done by the release of smokes that are full of chemical smoke that falls back as rain by getting back into the water resources then we are going the water being polluted. Apart from this, when sewage waste Is release to water sources then we are going to see substances that are hazardous going to get their way into the water sources making the water being contaminated and unfit for consumption. This is going to cause harm both human beings and other living organisms. In addition to the two cases, water pollution can be caused by the farming. When we practice our farming using inorganic substances than in the case of rain, the runoff will wash these substances into the water making the water sources contaminated. When all this is done to the water then; we are going to see people being poisoned by taking contaminated water, we are going to see diseases that are incurable arising, and finally we are going to see organisms that are important to the environment being killed. Teamwork in solving environmental pollution The solutions to the above problems are going to be, is by ensuring that the right measures are taken to stop the continuous pollution of the water resources. The first measure to be taken is ensuring that the society has been educated on the importance of conserving the environment and ensuring that it is clean. This is going to enable them to be aware of the practices that are going to make them suffer hence restraining from them. Another solution is by the legislation of laws that are going to see the big industries and factories are accountable for any pollution that is caused by their emissions. Also, the factories should be guided on how they can release their effluent to the water sources to ensure safety for the users of this resource. This is going to ensure that they are regulated well and exposed to huge fines in case they break the laws. The solutions given above are all beneficial, but it is prudent for the education of the public to be at the forefront. Education means that all individuals in the society are going to ensure that mobilization has been done that is going to ensure that those who mess know what they will cause at the end and the way it will affect in an indirect or direct way. When people are informed and fully understand the role that they should be playing to ensure that the environment is conserved, then there will be no need for the laws being implemented. Education is going to ensure that care is being undertaken to ensure that the environment is kept clean (Patz, 10). Conclusion Finally, as indicated from above, pollution is an act that is being propagated by human beings. We have every reason why we should take measures like implementing laws and creating awareness to ensure that the environmental resource is kept clean. In the world, these environmental resource is under scarce hence making it a necessity for it to be conserved both for the existing generation and the generations to come. It is the duty of each and every citizen to ensure that the environment is conserved. This is the only way that we can ensure that the environment sustained. Work cited Adam Broinowski.
