Global Warming and Intelligence Analysis Investigating Global Warming through Intelligence Analysis Global warming has been a contentious issue in the past century and a major challenge in the achievement of the millennium goals set in various fields. Intelligence analyses have been conducted by various bodies which include the U.S. CIA to establish the effect of greenhouse gases to the earth’s atmosphere. Global warming is defined as the increase of the surface temperature of the earth. The increase is gradual but over time the change has been established to be significant and hence call for immediate attention to avert the situation. The world is become highly industrialized and the use of fuel in vehicles increasing. This has led to a rise in greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide. The effect of the accumulation of these gases in the earth’s atmosphere is that the heat from the sun which is supposed to hit the earth’s crust and get reflected back will be retained due to the blocking by the gases. Deforestation and industrialization have been attributed mainly with the rise in global temperatures in records of carbon IV concentration since the 19th century. In 1998-2002, there was recorded an increased period of drought in many parts of the world (Luce, 2003). A report by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Researchers attributed the drought to the rising global temperatures. This work will therefore look at the intelligence analyses of the topic and the measures that have been recommended to avert the situation. The use of intelligence analysis is important in depicting the root of various occurrences around the world that need critical analysis and which touch the lives of many people. The US Central Intelligence Agency has been in the fore front in offering global warming intelligence analysis and enlightening people on the causes, effects and ways of prevention. In 2009, the body made it public that it would be opening a center for the critical analyses of geopolitical ramifications (Kravets, 2011). This center was supposed to analyze phenomena e.g. desertification and rising sea levels which are caused by global warming. The results of the analyses are still held secret but it is supposed that they will be made public when the analyses is completed. Intelligence analysis on global warming can therefore not be underestimated. It is clear that the effects of global warming are affecting so many people and man’s inventions maybe the cause of his extinction if the situation is not salvaged in time. The effects of global warming are many and far reaching. For instance the cases of skin cancer have increased from what was recorded in the previous years. The increasing global temperatures and exposure to stronger UV radiation has been under study to know whether it has a role in the same. Intelligence analysis done on the effect of greenhouse gases which are the main causes of global warming have found that the gases react with the ozone layer which reduces the intensity of heat energy reaching the earth’s crust (The Union of Concerned Scientists). The result is that more heat is received on earth than was in the past. On top of this, the accumulated gases block the heat that is supposed to be reflected out of the earth’s active atmosphere. The result is that the temperatures have continued increasing and the results are more significant. Melting of ice in the Polar Regions have been one of the last major concerns on global warming. The melting ice signifies the fact that temperature in the atmosphere is rising. Involvement of intelligence agencies in environmental issues is sometimes debated (Siobham, 2008). Melting ice causes the oceans levels to rice and displacement of the people living near the ocean shores is what follows. This reports produced by intelligence experts are meant to show the people or make them understand the need to uphold safe developmental plans that are environmental friendly. The development of environmental policies relies solely on the intelligence analyses done on a various subject. In global warming, such policies were signed in the Kyoto protocol on measures to curb and control the emission of greenhouse gases. Without such intelligence analyses the people conducting such conventions would not be having the facts to raise factual arguments which can be supported and funded by bodies that are concerned with the saving of the environment. The policies that are set are important in ensuring that the environment is conserved. For a long time, people have been thinking about development forgetting that the results of a deforested world could impact adversely on the people. For instance the floods in Pakistan in 2011 served as a warning for setting major policies on climate change (Mead, & Snider, 2011). Food supply is one of the major concerns in the world. Through the intelligence analyses done, it has been established that the increasing desertification noted is due to the increasing global temperatures. The changing temperatures have made the climatic seasons to change and so it is hard for farmers across the world especially in countries which are less developed to predict when to plant. The rainy seasons are no longer predictable. The result is that the farmers are planting and their crops getting destroyed either by too much rain or lack of it. In the developed countries, artificial methods of water provision to the farms is possible and so the farmers who often do it on large scale basis have nothing to worry about. However, in the developing ones, the farmers rely on the weather and changing climatic patterns to get a good harvest. Without the use of greenhouses for crop production, it therefore becomes almost impossible to make a good reap from the work done. Global warming analysts should come up with ways to change the situation and ensure that the effects has been put under control. In the measures that they have laid, they have proposed the reduced use of vehicles especially in major towns. Automobiles produce carbon gases which are major factors in increasing greenhouse gases. The rising atmospheric vapor has also been addressed. Deforestation has been curbed and to avert the situation reforestation has been recommended. Many movements have been formed across the world to help in saving the environment that has been destroyed over the years without much care from the people. The late doctor Wangari Mathai won a Nobel Prize for her work in ensuring that the environment is saved and deforestation has been stopped. This uproar was courtesy of the intelligence reports on the effects of deforestation in promoting global warming and increasing desertification. The role intelligence plays in enlightening the people on the causes and effects of global warming can never be underestimated. As addressed in the essay, it is the role of intelligence agencies to conduct researches to come up with factual information of the causes and clear on the speculation and misinformation that people have on the subject. Once that has been done, it is their role to link up with the responsible bodies that are supposed to address the issue and propose various strategies that can be put in place to address the situation before it becomes unmanageable. Global warming is a great hindrance to the millennium goals set earlier into the century. Such goals include ensuring that the world’s population is healthy and free of ignorance. The effects of global warming such as increasing the people’s vulnerability to skin cancer is a big block to their achievement. The intelligence analyses offered are therefore a big boost the achievement of the goals. On top of that by enlightening the people, ignorance levels are going down and the people have to act responsibly in conserving the environment. Work Cited Kravets, David.
