This essay talks about the various ways of saving large animals like horses in perilous situations. Since the main problem is the rescuing of these animals in incidents like floods and fires or retrieving if they are trapped in a ditch or valley, rescuers are seen to employ simple tactics to overcome the issue. The animal’s strength is usually a serious obstacle in this process, but it can be turned to the advantage of the animal and the rescuer. In this way, complex processes are avoided and the animal itself plays an active role during the rescue.

These simple processes are largely effective in producing the desired result. Through careful management, good planning, and overall efficient techniques, the animal will emerge safely. Techniques like these require less labor and force on the humans’ part and are therefore preferential to those in which machinery and manpower would have to be employed. But throughout it, the rescuers’ safety is prioritized above that of the animals’. The rescuer has to keep in mind that his safety will come first, but that the animal’s safety is still a priority.

This notion has the extreme bearing in the decision-making process. People taking part in this rather risky form of rescue require special training in order to make them ready for field operations and enable them to make on-the-spot decisions without compromising the safety of the involved parties. They are taught to assess the situation professionally and then handle the proceeding accordingly. This training is not focused solely on the proceedings, but also teaches them the proper way to handle the animal by imparting knowledge on the different behavior and reactions they can expect.
