P2 Opportunities in the Metallurgical Industry This paper briefly describes the main material inputs and outputs associated with the metallurgical industry. It is important to be aware of input as well as output production information. This is because “…the total of what goes into a process must equal the total of what comes out…” (Cheremisinoff, 2001, 185). This is in order to be able to balance the production material and output material, especially in relation to emissions. If waste can be reused in the production process, it may not count as an output and can, therefore, assist in controlling emissions (Cheremisinoff, 2001, 179).
As well, this paper names and discusses three potential P2 opportunities for the industry. In the metallurgical industry particles are emitted in production that “…may contain lead, mercury, and other heavy metals” (Cheremisinoff, 2001, 33). For example, coke production involves volatile components. In the US, in the iron and steel industry, coke is used in what is termed the byproduct coke process, that is, byproduct coke ovens are used and the high heat releases comppounds such as benzene, butane, hydrogen cyanide, and propane. The P2 opportunity that this presents is by use of the Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) Standard will help in the reduction of charging and leaking emissions by some two-thirds and bypass/bleeder stacks by ninty-eight percent (Marsosudiro, 2014, 2-3). Another potential P2 opportunity is also in the use of ironmaking technology, that is, direct reduction ironmaking (DRI) as well as pulverized coal injection (PCI). These two processes can reduce the use of coal in ironmaking (Marsosudiro, 2014, 5). Other processes that can assist in pollution prevention are natural gas injection, which can replace up to 25% of coal use, as well as oil injection (Marsosudiro, 2014, 6).

Input and Output Devices

...Your Full Input - Output Devices Introduction A human or an external agent can interact with a computervia the inputoutput devices present in the system. Input devices accept external commands given to the computer while the output devices display the results of computation to the user. I/O devices are also known as peripherals as they surround the CPU, which forms the core of a computing system (Goel 61). Input Devices Input devices are used to send information to the computer. These provide a channel where the user can instruct the computer. A few input devices are discussed below. Keyboard Keyboard is the most popular input device in use. It consists of a named array of switches, and upon pressing one a unique signal is sent... A...

Assignment 3: Input Controls

...INPUT CONTROLS Lecturer: Functions of input controls Input controls are edits that pass data into an application or gather information from a user. They allow the user to perform a variety of functions; type in text, select items, upload files and much more. Input controls can also be used to enforce transaction data integrity in the application. If incorrect data is entered into the system undetected, it might crush the system or corrupt its functionality. The input control therefore, minimizes the risk (Guadiso 85). Input controls are also used to check validity of information passed to the systems by providing validation checks....

Input and output

...Computer Input Output For a computer to process data, the data needs to be in place within the computer; thus, thereis the need to have a mechanism in which data can be input into the computer. In the same way, after the data input into the computer is processed, there is a need for it to be displayed so that a computer user can view the product. It is because of these two aspects of computers that there is a need to review what input and output in computer means in terms of processing, and its relevance in computing altogether. Input is based on a number of devices that facilitate the placing of data within a computer...

Facts about input output

...Facts about inputs and outputs Inputs are necessary for a computer system to provide outputs. Input commands are processed by the central processing unit (CPU) which contains two separate divisions; one for arithmetic operations and the other for logical operations. Raw data is given to the CPU whereas finished data is delivered by the CPU. In other words, raw data is given through inputs while finished data is obtained through outputs from a computer system. Various equipment are used for inputting data and to obtain the outputs from a computer system. Input and...

Input is the data communicated to the computer by its user or another operating system while output is the response that the computer gives to its user or another operating system. The interaction between the input and output devices is studied under a field of study called human-computer interaction. ...Input and Output Devices Input devices and output devices are terms that are readily used in everyday communication in the digital age. An input device, as the name suggests, is a device that sends information to a computer so that it can be processed. Likewise, an output device, displays or produces the end-product of processing. “The terms “input” and “output” are used both as verbs to describe the process of entering or displaying the data, and as nouns referring to the data itself entered into or displayed by the computer” (Beach). A device can either be an input device or an...
