Conclusion The main purpose of creating a non-profit organization, the Pollution Protection Program is to protect the coastlines and marine life, as well as to help the environment in general. This is because we stand by our belief that we, as the people have the power to shape our world, either for the better or for the worse, and by helping people gain knowledge with this kind of power, not only our group but everyone else will be empowered to do their share in healing our dying oceans and seas. Our campaign would be doing different kinds of methods that aim to increase the awareness of people from all walks of life in the need to preserve our marine environment, not just for the sake of the marine animals, but also for us and the future generations. In order to inform people about our cause, as well as the state of our world’s different bodies of water, we would be conducting several methods of communicating with them. One of these methods that we would be using would be to reach out to our audience by providing various information with regards to the present pollution state of the oceans and seas, the effects of mindless dumping of garbage and other toxic waste in all bodies of water, how global warming adds to the problem of acidification of waters in the ocean and its effects on marine life, as well as how pollution can affect people whenever they get exposed to either the polluted waters or tainted seafood. Not only would we be providing seminars and talks about this, but we would also be inviting other experts on the field so as to give people assurance that what we tell them are not politically-motivated statements, but are things that they must know to keep them safe and healthy as well as making them aware of their responsibilities to nature. We would also be publishing reading materials for people who are interested in our cause but are unable to attend our talks, so that they could still be informed of our goals and visions. Lastly, we would be conducting clean-up drives in coastal areas, as well as inviting other people to volunteer with us so that they would know that we are not just a group that talks about saving the oceans, but also we are people who are dedicated in our cause. While we remain optimistic that we would be able to send out message out to people properly and without fail, as well as being able to do what we were setting out to do, it cannot be helped that we would have some roadblocks along the way. For example, it may be possible that we would be up against larger corporations, especially those which throw their production waste directly into the sea or rivers, instead of being directed into a wastewater-treatment facility. Because we area a non-profit organization, we would be heading up against capitalists that are capable of paying people to give them a good front, and brainwashing the people into thinking that we are the ones doing wrong, not them (Helvarg, 2004). Another problem that we might encounter is when government officials that do not recognize the legitimacy of our campaign and projects would prevent us from informing the people or doing clean-up drives, due to their own agendas. While it might be hard to change the minds of these kinds of powerful people, we as a group aim to not just reach out to them, but to the greater audience, the ordinary citizens, especially those that would most likely be affected by polluted bodies of water. We will remain resilient in our goal of preventing the fast decline of the health of our world’s oceans and seas, as well as the extinction of many marine animals, despite major hurdles. We believe that as a group, we must be mindful of our actions towards our audiences, so that we would be able to connect with them and them with us. This is because if we lose our audiences because they become weary of us or if they do not fully understand our cause then there would be lesser hope for our planet’s future. Thus, we study reasons as to why some movements fail in sustaining themselves as well as their ability in continuing their cause. Some major reasons for this would be the inability of the group to identify with their audience, and another is not having a concrete plan of action such as estimating expenses, needed workforce, among other things (Reed, 1981). Another reason why groups fail to launch their cause is when there is internal struggling within the group itself (Snow, Soule and Kriesi, 2008). These reasons, when not addressed early would be the cause of the disintegration of the whole group, and may lead to its eventual abandonment. Thus, in order for our group to succeed, instead of relying only on what we know, we would also be reaching out to our audiences by telling them of our causes using the language that they know, so that they would be much more open to our ideas (Sherrod, 2006). We would also make sure that we set an example to other people by participating more in cleanup drives than simply conducting seminars, so that people would be able to see our sincerity much clearly. Lastly, not only do we need to strengthen our communication skills with our audiences, but also within our group, especially when our solidarity would be the key to our success. After doing this assignment, we learned so many things not just regarding the importance of preserving the environment and nature, but also in using communication effectively. We believe in the need for change with as to how we treat our environment however, we also acknowledge that we cannot do this by ourselves, and that we would need the help of others too. In order to make them see the reasons for our actions, we must be able to reach out to them by communicating with them using the interaction appearance theory. By showing people our sincerity in what we believe in, not just talking about our beliefs, we would be much more convincing and may even earn the trust and love of people, thereby gaining much more support for our group. Lastly, the importance of connecting with other kinds of people is not only applicable in campaigning but also in our everyday lives, in dealing with people that may well be unable to understand us, as well as effectively creating positive interactions in our society.
