It is unimaginable to believe that in years to come, millions of people can be displaced from their homes as a result of rising seas. The issue of climate change as a result of global warming has become topical in many societies during the contemporary period due to the impact it is believed to cause on the welfare of people across the globe. The concept of global warming mainly derives from the understanding that excessive greenhouse gasses such as carbon dioxide in the atmosphere can cause the planet to overheat which has negative impacts on human beings. However, of growing concern is the notion that human activities such as industrialization are responsible for the emission of these greenhouse gasses hence the need to generate more knowledge about the major effects and causes of climate change such as global warming. Thus, action has to be taken before it is too late. An increase in the greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere can been attributed to human pollutants which are seriously changing the earth’s climate on a large scale. The warming of the earth is a result of industrialization where factories are excessively emitting greenhouse gasses such as carbon dioxide and many others. The millions of cars are also responsible for the emissions of these greenhouse gasses. The greenhouse gasses are responsible for making a layer which insulates the atmosphere and this traps excessive heat from the sun which prevents it from being reradiated back into the space. This results in the generation of more warmth which is commonly referred to as global warming. Global warming in itself is not very wrong but the major cause for concern is the amount of greenhouse gasses emitted which is excessive and has resulted in some of the coldest parts of the earth getting hot to the extent that glaciers are beginning to melt. This causes the levels of the sea to rise since the quantity of water will be increased which can lead to the displacement of people from their homes. Scientists have proved that our actions have greatly contributed to the damage of the ecosystem which affects the climate in the long run. The concept of global warming as an issue of debate emanates from the notion that industrial growth combined with arrogance that global warming is not a crisis to the extent of ignoring its consequences has created a situation where our actions are colliding with the ecological system thereby creating unfavorable conditions to the climate. Since the early 1980s, unusual conditions in the weather have been witnessed as a result of overheating of the earth. Global warming has catastrophic impacts on human beings such as destruction of their homes through floods, starvation and famine as a result of long dry spells that can be a direct result of changes to the climate caused by global warming. The balance of the ecosystem is also likely to be disturbed which also has negative consequences on both fauna and flora. The people’s health can be affected by climate change both directly and indirectly. Heat stress and other heat related health problems for instance are caused directly by very warm temperatures and high humidity. Indirectly, ecological disturbances, air pollution, changes in food and water supplies as well as flooding are all examples of possible impacts of global warming that might affect human welfare. It can be noted that these extreme climatic conditions can cause untold suffering to the human beings hence the need for concerted efforts to ensure that we act responsibly in a bid to minimize the amount of damage we cause to the atmosphere. A holistic approach has to be taken in an attempt to combat this threat to the climate. Essentially, it is important to recognize that industrial development is necessary to our lives while at the same time we must note that conservation of the environment is also very important. These are interdependent and a fine balance has to be created. It can be seen from this argument that development projects that ignore environmental needs are detrimental to the ecosystem hence the need to put measures in place to minimize the impacts of humans on the atmosphere. Being the major contributors towards the destruction of the environment, we can act responsibly in several ways in a bid to minimize our negative impacts on the environment. I think that on the individual level, people can stop global warming by starting to change their habits of life by always ensuring that their activities do not greatly contribute to the emission of greenhouse gasses. Saving power through the use of fluorescent bulbs is very effective since it reduces the amount of energy consumed in the event that it would be thermal power being used. Taking shorter showers also greatly contribute to a reduction in the amount of energy used which reduces the amount of carbon dioxide. I also think that the use of public transport is another viable option that will go a long way in minimizing the factors that contribute towards the emission of greenhouse gasses since it discourages people to drive their own cars. Cars contribute quite a big deal to the causes of global warming through the emission of carbon dioxide through the combustion of fuel used. It is also recommendable to have a lift club where members of a family or those who live close together can use one car as a way of reducing the number of cars on the road. Buying a hybrids car which uses solar energy is another viable option that can positively contribute towards reduction of excessive greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Using fossil energy like coal should be discouraged as this contributes to the emission of greenhouse gasses. It is my strong conviction that as individuals, we can make a change to the environment by taking some of the factors mentioned above. This is the stance I have so far taken towards helping anti-global warming efforts. I have been practicing these habits for several years now and this does not mean to say that global warming will quickly disappear but I still hope that my small contribution is still helping in some way. You can also make a change, it is not too late. In conclusion, it can be noted that the aspect of global warming is topical issue that has influenced debate across the whole globe. Basically, global warming is the excessive heating of the atmosphere as a result greenhouse gas emissions which will trap excess outward bound heat from radiating into space. Research has shown that the industrial and domestic activities of human beings particularly the use of combustion or fossil fuels are the major contributors in the emission of greenhouse gasses. The relationship between human civilization and the earth has often been seen as catastrophic where the activities of men are colliding with the planet’s ecological system resulting in extreme changes particularly in the climate. Global warming has become a serious problem that can lead to extreme changes in climatic conditions which can negatively impact on our lives in many ways as discussed above. Though global warming is advantageous in that it keeps the earth warm, it can be concluded that its consequences in the long term are severe hence the disadvantages outweigh the advantages by far. Only concerted efforts by the human beings can go a long way in minimizing these severe impacts of this catastrophic phenomenon which is threatening to destabilize the whole world in the long run if left unchecked. # Read More
