Formed in large patches, it looks like tubules or tiny worm holes. (Ehow, 2011). Educating tourists and adventurers: First of all there is an urgent need to educate tourists and adventurers the need to preserve cryptobiotic soil. This soil helps to conserve the ecological system by preventing soil erosion. It is very fragile in nature and treading and riding on the soil crusts can cause permanent damage and prevent growth of cryptobiotic soil. Studies conducted on such soil crusts suggested that severely affected areas may never fully recover.
Moreover, the soil growth is very slow hence the utmost need to preserve this. (National Park Service, 2011). Tourists must be educated that they should never try to destroy nature in their pursuit for pleasure and adventure. It is very necessary that they understand to protect and preserve the authenticity of the place and product. If the very essence of the product is destroyed, in this case cryptobiotic soil, then this very place will cease to exist in the near future due to contact erosion.
Creating awareness on the suppliers of tourism: Recent development in technology has made it possible for the potential adventure traveller to access all information on the internet. Most tourism websites provide services online. These websites should be encouraged to publish information which reflects the need and importance to preserve cryptobiotic soil. These websites cater to different strata of people and hence advertising the importance of preservation of such soil crusts will be effecting in promoting the cause.
Also the tourist guides should be educated about the need and importance of these soil crusts so that they can convey such information to student groups, hikers and trekkers who frequent these regions. Travel and adventure tourism companies should be involved and initiated to be a part of the program to preserve the soil crusts. Tourism companies should be enlightened that as responsible citizens it is also their duty to convey the message to preserve these soil crusts to prospective clients.
Nowadays, there are select websites which cater to adventure tourism. These suppliers should be encouraged to not only educate the potential clients about the importance to preserve such soils but also to create awareness by publishing write ups on their website. Spreading awareness among educational institutions: Most educational institutions conduct camps, trekking and hiking trips wherein student groups visit such areas. Social volunteers should educate teachers and instructors about the importance and need to conserve cryptobiotic soil crusts.
Power point presentations and distribution of pamphlets can help to attain this goal. Other than this, volunteers should identify potential educational institutions wherein hiking and trekking is a part of students extra – curricular activities. Workshops enlightening the importance to preserve the soil crusts should be conducted and the teaching and non – teaching staff should be actively involved so that they can educate the students the need to preserve such soil crusts. Tourist guides should also be a part of this program.
