?Appendices Appendix A - Action Plan for the future (in SMART format) Specific Drucker (1999); and Spokane and Cruza-Guet (2005) confirm my thoughts on my action plan by positing that my career path is up to me and it is my job to find the best fit (organization) for my personality. Having given thought to the organization that would be a good fit for me, I have arrived at the decision of Qatar Petroleum. My midterm goal, within 5-6 years, is to become a valued employee working in Qatar in the accounting department. This would provide me with excellent skills and experience in order to reach a senior level in that same company, which is my long term goal to be reached within 10-15 years. I will undertake the MBTI® Step I Programme and take the applicable courses from ICA in order to get closer to my goal of being a highly competent accounting person. Measurable Immediately after my graduation I will seek to find employment in the accounting function of a small organization while in the accounting graduate program. I lack work experience in accounting, therefore, the chances of a large multinational organizations declining my application would be very high. I will apply to small or medium sized organizations in the capacity as a trainee or junior or staff accountant in the accounting department. After working for a period of 12 to 18 months in a small or medium sized organization while sharpening my skills in accounting, I would venture out in search of employment in a multinational organization in the capacity of Accounting Manager or Senior Accountant. I would also strive to attend at least 6 public workshops during the next year in order to gain exposure and understanding of the accounting process and how to maintain accounts ledgers. Attainable The immediate goal would be to find work experience in the field of accounting with a long term goal to establish a career path within the accounting area at Qatar Petroleum Co. Within the first three months after graduation my goal will be to equip myself with suitable work experience and then work within the accounting field for a minimum of 12-18 months. Additionally, my skills in writing and speaking English need to be improved. Another skill that needs improving is proficiency with excel spreadsheets as it would be important in maintaining a large database of accounts and presenting charts and diagrams on project schedules. I will join the Brookes Entrepreneurs club and also the Oxford Entrepreneurs club in order to expand my network with both compatible and diverse individuals, thereby increasing my prospect of navigating myself into accounting function. Darling (2005) discusses the importance of networking. Networking with others who have had similar experiences will be helpful to me as I investigate relocating to the UK and then relocate to the UK. Realistic During the holiday break, I will purchase a CD that teaches how to use Microsoft Office tools more proficiently in order to be armed at managing databases of accounts. I will do more research on the current accounting job market; make an appointment with the Careers and Advice centre; and speak with a career advisor on making my CV more attractive to prospective employers. My interview skills will need to be reviewed with my Career advisor. Upon graduation, I will venture out in search of employment in Accounting Management as a graduate manager-trainee level or even at a staff level. Timely I would aim at improvement of my information technology skills with Microsoft office tools during the next holiday break (2010-1011). I will also join the Brookes Entrepreneurs society and the Oxford Entrepreneurs society immediately. I will find employment in the capacity of an accounting graduate trainee or an accounting manager – trainee within the first three months after graduation. To summarize, I have goals established to take the MBTI® Step I Qualifying Programme after 18 months of employment. 12 months preceding the MBTI® Step I Qualifying Programme, I will follow the International CompIiance Association (ICA) Training Course. Within three to four years from now, I will be a Senior Accounting Officer, or in an equal to or higher position, within an equally reputable company with the objective of joining Qatar Petroleum as a Senior Accounting Manager. Appendices Appendix B - Bio I finished my high school in 2004 with 73.2% in scientific section. Then I went to Qatar University to continue my studies. While in the Foundation Program at QU, I changed my study major from engineering to business, but after two years I get. I joined the Qatar Petroleum Company and transferred to College of The North Atlantic-Qatar. I choose Accounting as a major in Business Administration because I like math and dealing with numbers. My studies at CNA-Q have helped me prepare to study at University. While at CNA-Q I discovered my learning and studying styles. For instance, I know that I have a difficulty with memorizing so I worked on ways to help me remember like taking notes in my notebook or cell phone. I also learned how to prioritize my time and avoid procrastinating so I leave myself enough time to study. In June 2009, I graduated from CNA-Q with GPA 3.52. I worked very hard to achieve this GPA. I am happy with my accomplishment of having an honors GPA and this has given me the confidence to pursue my studies at university. A degree would assist me in reaching my career goal of obtaining an accounting position at Qatar Petroleum at the senior level. I have been researching different university options. I looked into attending university in the US, Canada and the UK. This exercise has been a challenge to balance all the pros and cons of all the alternatives I considered. While doing my research some of the factors I weighed were; the quality of program, transfer credit, location, and, English requirements. I have been accepted at the University of Houston but it will take three years to complete a Bachelor’s degree due to low transfer credit and degree requirements. Canada will accept a high number of transfer credits and do not require TOEFL and IELTS as I have studied at a Canadian college. However, I believe that the harsh weather in Canada is too cold for me as I have lived in the desert climate of Qatar my whole life. My research has led me to believe that studying in the UK would be the best option for me. The quality of program is excellent, I am able to transfer credits and my English scores are acceptable. My preference is to stay closer to home as I have not travelled far from home and the UK is only one plane ride away. Now I am doing Accounting in Brookes University and I hope it will be my last semester. A degree would assist me in reaching my career goal of obtaining an accounting position at Qatar Petroleum at the senior level, so look forward to completing my education so that I can return and contribute to the success of Qatar Petroleum. I am the oldest son of my family. They are very supportive of my choosing to go abroad to further my education. My father is a famous actor in my country, and my mother is a geological teacher. In my spare time I enjoy sketching, drawing, camping in the desert, horse riding and spending time with friends and family I have difficulty with speaking, so for that reason I am attending an English course while I am in the University. As I said before that I am good with studying and anything other than speaking and using words that I know. .
