Romeo and Juliet: Writing Journal Entry as Romeo Romeo’s Act Journal Entry Today I wondered in the sycamores my mind occupied on Rosaline. Love knows no boundaries. It feels so sad to love and not be loved back. My cousin Benvolio thinks that I can get over this very fast. He suggests that I should focus my eyes on other women and this torment will be over. Love is a malady indeed. I guess that one day Benvolio will understand that when a man falls in love, it is such a big fall. Dear Lord, does Rosaline even care? When will she look this way to so genuine a man who loves her? I recline myself to fate. May that which has been destined for me come to pass quickly, or I will leave the legacy of a lonely wonderer of the sycamores. Can someone tell me what love is? Why does the heart have to bother itself with one person who cares not? Oh my heart, how I wish you would only pump blood, but you keep pumping Rosaline in my mind. When my friends invited me to a party at the Capulets, I had no inkling that Benvolio’s words would prove me wrong. It was a strange place to be since our families would not look each other in the eye. The party was a buzz of activities. I felt safe in the crowd. My eyes did roam on many young women, but none did catch my attention. Then came this Juliet, a princess so pure indeed. I had so much anticipation even as I continued to grieve over Rosaline. I confess I was excited at the thought of the party, but I had no idea I would meet my perfect match. However, I had a foreboding of an inevitable fate in this arrangement. My heart leapt with both joy and concern. It was not until the party began that I realized I had never been in love. Blame it on Juliet. It appeared to me then that a man’s feelings are like columns of smoke blown about by the wind. When I saw Juliet, my worries about Rosaline came to a sudden stop. I was on a new course of action even without knowing. Like a column of smoke, fate blew my feelings over to Juliet. Such are the times when a man must master enough courage to speak his mind or forever die grieving about the woman he would have married had he taken a bold step. When I did touch Juliet’s hands and talked to her, I knew that my heart had found all that I ever needed, but alas, how will I deal with the fact that she is a Capulet? Have I just come from one torment into another? Good Lord, I will follow my heart in this love. I have never before kissed a woman before, so that kiss must have been the seal of my love. She must be the one. Romeo’s Act 2 Journal Entry Things must have happened too quickly. The party was over but I felt it was not yet time to go home. Therefore, I climbed the wall, ignoring my friends call. Love led me to find Juliet in the quietness of the night where she came to the very garden where I was to speak her mind. I heard her confess that she loves me, and that she, like me, would disregard our family differences for this love. I had intended to stay quiet, but the sound of her love was like concords of sweet sound so that I had to come. Well, it was a superb encounter. Things must have happened too fast but when from the time we met at the party. Perhaps what surprised me today was the courage with which I approached Friar Lawrence. Wisdom dwells in the old man’s eyes, as he was able to see that I had not slept. He was equally surprised that my problem was still the same theme, but different characters. As I told the Friar, it is my belief that true love is that which is returned. Luck seems to be on my side as the Friar has agreed to wed us. Upon returning to my friends, Benvolio and Mercutio, mine was the joy of a man who had found a lifetime gift. The two were not happy with me that I had left them the previous night, but at least they understood that sometimes a man has to do some things without seeking permission to do them. My lucky stars kept falling in place. Juliet sent me a messenger: the nurse. So tonight I might be going back to see Juliet after, thanks to the wits of the nurse to make me a cloth ladder. Thanks to Friar Lawrence for the wedding. However secret it was, that was the only way to beat all the odds. Romeo’s Act 3 Journal Entry Today was indeed a cursed day. Disaster beckoned closely despite my numerous attempts to keep peace within our new secret relations with the Capulets. While I was away, the unrestraint Tybalt sought me for destruction, but instead quenched his thirst for blood on poor Mercutio. Oh Mercutio, how I wish I should have honored that dog’s request to duel with him. Why has my diplomacy been taken for weakness? However, you have met your deserving fate Tybalt. Your death is a thorn in my flesh because of Juliet. What shall I tell Juliet? How better it would have been for me to fight you back from the time you sought a dwell with me. Maybe I would have defeated you and spared your reckless life, and perhaps Mercutio would still be alive today. Perhaps both of them would be alive and I would not be here exiled from my blood and my love. Oh, fate, what liking hath thou with lovers yet to prove their commitment? Where dost thou find gladness in evil schemes? To my love Juliet, how much has our love made our families cursed? We shall forge on and overcome. So much is my grief today even as I take refuge here in Friar Lawrence’s cell. My one concern is that my love should not think of my actions as the blatant hatred between our two families. Life does not seem worth it if I lose Juliet because of this unavoidable folly. Oh Juliet, my soul is so tormented tonight my love. At least your ring gives me hope. I shall come to thee as your nurse has instructed me. Here I take worthy risks, may joy be the consequence when I come for you. Why should I leave you a widow before your wedding night my love? I have to see you before this ghost of exile wakes up in me. Yesterday was such a disaster, but today as I left Juliet’s room, there was joy in my eyes. Our young hearts were united in love despite the obvious danger that threatened to separate us. As shall stand by my promise to you fair lady. I hope my family will understand, just as I hope your family will understand you. Something tells me it will not be without a little fight though. Oh, Juliet, how much you looked pale in the morning light. I wish you the strength to overcome the forthcoming battle you shall face as you defend our love. I shall wait for you as agreed. May the good Lord protect you oh tender Juliet. Work Cited Shakespeare, William. Romeo and Juliet. New York: Harper Press, 2011. Print. Read More
