Humility and Respect in the Workplace Humility and respect are among the best traits any sane person can employ in a working environment. This goes to both leaders and employees. I have noticed a form of hubris hanging above people, which is actually affecting the way we relate and work with each other. In fact, those who exhibit these two characters are viewed as weak and can be easily manipulated, but that is not always the case. Humility allows us to acknowledge our limitations and accept that we cannot work as solitary beings. We need each other to prosper. When we act humbly, we become accommodative of others’ needs and faults and we will always offer a helping when the need arises.
Leaders should uphold humility at all costs at work. This is because workers look up to them and are more likely to be inspired by their actions. If a leader acts humbly- not timidly, in front of his/her subjects, he/she elicits a positive response from the subjects. Take for instance a scenario I witnessed at work. It involved a woman who was publicly scorned and belittled by her boss for coming to work late for a week. He even threatened to sack her if she did forego some of her leave days to compensate for the time she lost. His haughtiness did not allow him to find out what was the cause of her lateness.
The woman’s son was involved in an accident and was recuperating in hospital. She therefore had to juggle between her work, home and the hospital. Her boss was consequently resented by all workers. If I were her boss, I would have organized a private meeting with her. Scorning her in public will demoralize her. The next step would be to ask for an explanation. After knowing the problem, I would offer both moral and financial support and then give her a short leave. Putting ourselves into other people’s shoes gives us an insight of how people feel. This ultimately builds humility in us. Read More

In some documents that involve research, it includes ideas that are not originally the author’s. The source of such ideas must be given credit to lest the author of the document be accused of plagiarism. Citing sources gives credibility to one’s work. ...Enterprising Potential People that have the innate ability to create and innovate, search for new ideas, and are motivated to put those ideas into action are said to be enterprising. Every person has some potential for enterprising, but a select few are the highly charged creators that pursue a dream until it becomes a reality. Other people are more modest in their goals and their approach and prefer to follow someone elses lead, while they minimize their risk as well as their reward. I recently evaluated a friend of mine named Michael to see where he fell on the enterprise potential map, and evaluate how his life mirrors his enterprise potential. Michael scores rather high marks in the first category of Need for Achievement. He... Potential...

Some people get immobilized by their burden; some tolerate them patiently and suffer, others prefer not to care. I realized that the ability to simply laugh in such circumstances is very helpful. Signing of an agreement by Lee and Grant spurred the end of the Civil War thus making the occasion one of the most piteous contrasts in the history of America. Lee and Garry represented views from different strength and thus coming together resulted to the end of an old aristocratic concept.
