In the back of the book, Von Drehle gives away the list of the victims of the Triangle fire like Vincenza Benenti aged 22, Essie Bernstein aged 19 and Ida Brodsky aged 16 which show his research on the subject. The book in the initial part explains the nature of accident, its consequences and the reason which triggered the fire accident in the Blouse factory. The instances where the employers of the factory suspected the workers for theft rather than thinking of their physical and mental condition can be sympathized upon.

This shows how the owners disregarded the wellbeing of their employees during an emergency situation. The part where the employers check the bags of pain stricken employees bring forth a sense of horror and empathy. Here, we can see a situation of tragedy, racism, genders and capitalistic mentality of the people in America during industrial revolution period. In the starting chapters itself we can see how the author hails about the nature of fire tragedy, the agony of the workers and their mixed racial background.

The story conventionally states that the female workers were mostly immigrants from Jewish, Eastern European and Italian Catholic backgrounds. The highlight of the book is that it gives glimpses of the fire tragedy in the early times of America in a vivid manner. Here, we can see how the American capitalists ignored the ambition and hardworking mentality of the poor immigrants. We can see that, America was a different continent before the invention of racial consideration and the immigrants definitely have been a victim of greed and discrimination of the American industrialists.

When reading through the initial paragraphs of the novel, we can get an understanding of the pain and fatal situations faced by the workers present in the fire stricken factory. The workers, especially women were rushing for life stumbling upon the injured and dead bodies of their colleagues. Here, the author
