Personal ment: Construction manager My field of interest is construction management. The most critical challenge that faces construction managers is time constraints. Until 1990, construction projects were generally managed by engineers and creative architects. For instance, the 1st century BC was characterized by Vitruvius, Thomas Telford and Christopher Wren who dominated the construction industry between 1757-1834 and 1632-1723 respectively. During this period, construction management was characterized by time constraints because as a result of poor time management, control techniques and planning.

The current time driven construction environment is scheduled by superior planning, proper scheduling and control. That is, The current construction management is characterized by comprehensive plan and closely monitored operations. This helps in limiting the time wasted between each project’s activities hence ensuring that the project is completes as scheduled. To properly mitigate time constraints in construction projects, managers use project-schedule model namely; Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).

This models helps in project cost estimation and liner scheduling. It offers a proactive as opposed to reactive solutions to time constraints because of its comprehensive planning and monitoring progress of the project. The three basic steps in constructing WBS for construction project are as follows:I. Start with high level of deliverables which include; i. Obtaining consents and approvalsii. Investigationsiii. Design and costiv. Procurementv. Construction vi. Testing and handoverII. Identify subtasks.

This involves the breaking down the main activities highlighted in step one above and assigning them the appropriate time schedule.III. Describe each task. Add a description to each action. .
