What stood out unique was the fact that both the hearing and the deaf community have numerous similarities and co-exist. Moreover, both factions have rights, and any violation brings about demonstration; as depicted by learners at Gallaudet.
The documentary improved my understanding concerning the deaf. It showed that the deaf have a culture of their own that is part of the larger society. As a clarification, the video reveals that signing of words varies with the dialect. For instance, the signing by a black American is not similar to that of a white.
Initially, my opinion was that all the deaf had an equal chance of the signing. However, the documentary improved my understanding by showing that signing was dependant on dialect. Furthermore, the video enabled me understand that apart from signing, the deaf can use lip-reading.
