Mother Who Jumped - Essay Example

A distraught mother, Cynthia  Wachenheim 45, has plunged eight stories out of an apartment window strapping her baby boy onto the chest. This is an apparent suicide case where the child miraculously survived but the mother died on the spot. Cynthia was found dead on Harlem Street along with her son moving in her arms. Her son Keston was taken by the police officers and the boy was believed to be 10 months old. He was taken to a hospital where his condition is supposed to be stable. The lady was clutching her son to her chest when she hit the pavement as a result of the suicide attempt. Her body was seen covered with a white sheet outside  102 Bradhurst Avenue.

The window of the Manhattan apartment was wide open and police could not find any signs of struggle at the apartment. Also, there was an absence of safety bars on the apartment windows. Now, the lady had only one son and her sister confirmed that she was fine until the baby was 4 months old. Cathy was a person who was suffering from postpartum depression and she was consuming anti –depressants as reported by her sister. Cathy left a suicide note describing how bad a mother she was concerned about her son’s cerebral palsy. However, the child seems to be healthy and is not suffering from any disease, and could be that her worse postpartum depression might have led her to commit this evil.
