Aspects of Writing a Persuasive Essay - Assignment Example

I think the hardest part of writing a persuasive essay is figuring which details that support your side of the topic to put into the essay. I usuallyseem to find so much information that I have a hard time deciding what to put into my essay. I want to put the best information from my research that will make the reader want to agree with my side of the argument or at least I will prove my point. I also think that forming a conclusion is an area where I struggle with. I have a hard time wrapping things up and making sense out of what the reader just read.

I used to have this problem as well. Later on, I found it was easier if I just made an actual handwritten list first. I wrote down all the arguments for one side in Column A and those for the other side in Column B. After I have decided that each side had enough, I’d go through my list again to see if I did put everything in the proper column. This can be the tough part, because like you said there is just so much information. So, I end up just limiting myself to having two to three arguments for each side.

After this list, I start writing my draft. The hardest part for me is how to make the information just flow for the reader. I don’t want them to abruptly change from one opinion to the other. In my essay, I try and explain one side thoroughly and then my side thoroughly. This way the reader can see why I decided to make a stand, and maybe this will encourage them to take my side. Sometimes, I also have problems on how to sound persuasive but this does not happen a lot. Whenever I have this problem, I search on the Internet for helpful phrases and expressions to use.

I have actually bookmarked a couple of sites and have used the expressions there many times. At times, I also have problems with how to end my essay because I don’t want to sound like an advertisement. But these last two reasons I just mentioned isn’t as hard as making the whole essay an interesting read for my audience.
