of Revolution and Violence: Black Power Mix Tape When asked about the use of violence in society for revolutionary purposes, Angela Davis in the documentary Black Power Mix Tape argues that violence in the United States of America was inevitable. As one of the reasons, she cites the fact that the African American community was a constant and everyday target of violence on the part of racist elements. Drawing on experiences of her childhood when racist attacks led to the killings of many of her friends, Davis argues that violence was the only means for many of the lower class African Americans to protect themselves and in certain cases, register their protest (Olsson).
Davis argues that any movement would require a focus towards its goals and the achievement of these goals needed to be done through means that were available to the resisting community. Davis points out the hypocrisy of the government, members of whom make incendiary comments against the African American community and in the same breath accusing the African American community of violence. Davis’s grouse against such comments stems from the institutional violence that African Americans have to face on a daily basis, leading to reduced economic and political opportunities.
Diane Ravitch argues that society as a whole, if it is to be an educated one, would have to preserve its integrity (Ravitch). This idea can be connected to Davis’s notion of revolution. Revolution, for Davis, is for the establishment of a society that has integrity. The very notion of revolution too is characterized by its honesty, as far as Davis is concerned.

The society appeared less...

Black Power Movement

... Black Power Movement The Black Power Movement was embodied by the Black Panther Party (BPP), an association made up of primarily African Americans devoted to the advancement of the Civil Rights movement. Begun in the1960’s and active through the early 1970’s, remnants of the group still exist today. The Party’s genuine and creditable political ambitions are eclipsed in the historical perspective because of its anti-social means of furthering its agenda. Their well-founded suspicion of and lack of regard for those charged with enforcing the law along with their belief that these various law enforcement agencies were the incarnation of white oppression caused the BPP to believe that civil justice for the black community could... be...

After reviewing the tape, it became evident to me, that I should become more comfortable in dealing with negative emotions, and exploring them in order to get to the more significant themes at hand. For instance, when the interviewee stated, "I got one pass grade; and my mother is not happy about that;" I should have probed this with further questions like: "What gives you this impression Did you share with your...

...“Tape” When the end of life will have come, and when the memories of life on earth will be revived, it will be a terrible moment for the liars, those who spent their days faking reasons and giving unwarranted basis of engaging in bad behavior. Cheating and lying is one thing, a sin enough for anyone doing it. However, it is worse, the memory of the things that an individual did wrongfully, and the memories of how the individual lied to get out of the situation. This is an emotive play, evoking fear that there is an instance in life when the lies which individuals have been telling, will come back to haunt them. The good thing about the situation is that people will be haunted back, as much as they hurt others. The more...
