Driving And Texting The phrase driving-while-texting is used to refer to the act of text messaging while at the same time driving a motor vehicle. Driving while texting has been found to impact the society in a very negative manner as it has resulted in several deaths. According to a research conducted by NCS, around 1.6 million road accidents are caused due to the use of cell phone while an individual is driving (Nsc.org 1). One of the reasons due to which driving while texting results in road accidents is that while an individual is driving along with texting, his/her attention is shared between two tasks at the same time and he/she is impaired from using various senses required to drive a car safely.
A driver is required to keep his/her eyes on the road at all times and if he/she is involved in texting while driving his sense of seeing is distributed in two tasks and he/she may miss an individual who is crossing the road and may run them down with their car. Other than death driving while texting has resulted in huge amount of monetary costs. One of the costs that is incurred due to accidents involving driving and texting is the medical cost that both the driver as well as the individual being injured has to pay due to an accident.
Driving and texting even has psychological costs associated with it. When lives are lost, family members of those injured and killed in accidents experience emotional trauma due to the unhealthy situation of the driver and the victim. Works CitedNsc.org,.
