By this fact, the country presents one of the biggest markets in Asia and, by extension, the world. China is also one country that is having greater and greater influence on its neighbors and the world at large. The United States on the other hand is the most powerful nation in the world. It also has the third largest population in the world. The situation of the U.S. and China as the most populous countries with the largest economies in effect means that the two countries share some challenges and may leverage each other’s strengths for their greater good.

The United States will maintain its current stances toward the Peoples Republic of China to the effect that it will increase cooperation with the country in such areas as trade, fight against nuclear proliferation, and broaden its military presence and capabilities around the country while pressing for the respect of human rights. China has been one of the United States’ main creditors for a long time (Cohen 25). The country has also stood by the U.S. in its war against terrorism and the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

More particularly, China and the U.S. have shared similar grounds with respect to North Korea’s program on nuclear weapons (Clinton 16). Yet another area of cooperation with China has been in respect of trade.
