The article Groom Service specifically looks at different issues that often characterize various issues about growing up. Growing up is a process that is characterized by different issues. It can be noted that parents also play a pivotal role in shaping the behavior of their children. As such, this paper critically analyses some of the factors that characterize the upbringing of children by different parents. The paper discusses the major expectations of the mothers with regards to their choice of spouses to marry.

A close analysis of the article shows that mothers in particular can court spouses for their children. As illustrated in the article, Bernard’s mother, Martha is strongly interested in Marie, Blanche’s child marrying her son. Bothe mothers have the same feeling that their children should marry and start a family. The main reason why these mothers want their children to marry each other is that each individual has great admiration for each other’s child. For instance, Bernard is the talk of the village because he is well groomed and is respectful.

Each individual would envy to have a son in law like this wonderful son of Martha. On the hand, Marie is also admired for her good manners. Parents often observe their children as they grow up and they tend to admire certain behavior in them. Apart from observing their own children, the parents also observe other people’s children to see the features that make them outstanding in the society and admired by many people. Another notable aspect highlighted in the article is that the mothers often wish their children to inherit their disposition.

That is, they want their children to behave like themselves. In as far as good morals are concerned, the mothers think that they are role models to their children. They represent good behavior and moral values. However, the mothers feel that their children should possess their fathers’ looks and personality. This will help them to create identity which will distinguish them from other people. Whilst the mothers they may play a pivotal role in influencing their children’s spouses, it can also be noted that it is not always the case that the children would have the same feelings towards then “chosen” people by their parents.

As noted in the case of Bernard, he is more interested in Doris than Marie. Apparently, Doris is by far older than Bernard but he feels comfortable in her than in Marie whom he regards as young. Over and above, it can be noted that parents have certain expectations of their children in as far as the aspect of growing up is concerned. From childhood to adulthood, the parents particularly mothers always try to inculcate a certain behavior among their children that will make them distinct from the other members of the society.

Parents can influence their children in as far as selection of spouses to marry is concerned. However, the children may not readily accept the propositions of their mothers since they may also have their own disposition to the world around them. This entails that as human beings, young people can make their own choice in as far as marriage is concerned.
