Clear definition of course objectives, which the guideline offers, are also significant to achievement of the objectives as this helps both learners and educators to focus on specific goals. Outlining key learning processes also prepares students for the course.
In addition to effectiveness of outlined purpose and communicated process, offering the grading criteria is significant to helping the students meet their expectations in test results. This motivates students’ input into course materials as well as in discipline and offers a fair evaluation basis. The guidelines are also clear on class procedures, assignment submission, and availability of writing assistance, and the developed standard policies for the program are sensitive to needs in a learning environment and the necessary discipline. The daily course syllabus also offers a basis for preparation, among students and the tutor, and for evaluation of achievements.
The guidelines and syllabus are therefore sufficient to facilitate behavior and activities towards achieving objectives of the course. As far as language course design is concerned, it is often the case that some curriculum content is defined, but no aims, objectives and learning outcomes are defined, or they are only defined a little if at all. Furthermore, even if some aims, objectives and learning outcomes are defined, they are not always grounded in an analysis of students’ needs.
All through the article, the author emphasizes the role of term papers in developing the skills of the learners in history. Based on his personal experience with the students’ history term papers, the author makes a remarkable statement that such papers help not only the high school students of history who write them, but also other students who get a “chance to read some history and to see what some of their diligent peers have been able to do” (Fitzhugh).
Through socialization, children are able to communicate and understand each other with the help of older children and adults. Researches have indicated that people can not build their knowledge by simply observing events, but also through the use of aspects of language (Stone, et al 2004).
