Essay, English Topic: San Francisco Bart strike Introduction: Unity! Sometimes what sins are committed in the name of unity! Workers unity and the right to strike have been the ancient weapons of resistance by the trade unions. The demand that public employees should not be allowed to strike is to deny them the fundamental rights. There cannot be a blanket ban on all strikes. The causes for the strike need to be analyzed and stern actions are called for when the strike is on flimsy grounds.

With this viewpoint, whether the prevailing labor practices in relation to San Francisco Bart Strike are justified? Backgrounder information:According to Reuters, the previous strike and “The July work stoppage caused between $73 million and $100 million a day in lost productivity for riders, said Rufus Jeffris, spokesman for the Bay Area Council, which studies the local economy.”(October 20, 2013)This is awesome. The present strike within a period of three months has disrupted the economy of San Francisco from all ends.

The general reasons for labor discontent:Technological advancement and internet revolution have caused genuine problems for the workers and when advanced technology procedures are introduced, there is the distinct possibility of labor strength being curtailed and a stoppage to new recruitment. The promotional avenues for the existing staff are affected. All these factors lead to discontentment. For example, when computers were introduced in the Banking system, with one computer capable of doing the job of at least ten assistants, it affected job prospects for educated youngsters.

But that cannot be the reason for strikes, as technological advancement is the national goal and it is not possible to stop it to please one section of the peopleMy opinion:To end such a fiasco, highly responsible leadership that will be able to communicate with the mammoth membership of workers effectively is needed. Trade union is a responsive organization. If the organization is not there, where is the union? Similarly if the health and economy of the organization is affected, in the long run it will affect the worker’s interests also.

The State and the Federal authorities need to pay serious attention to this so save the people from precarious situations on account of such strikes. . Political interference in the union (some of the political leaders occupy top positions in the trade union hierarchy) matters is the root cause of most of the troubles.
